There are so many works of popular art which speak about the American psyche and the present condition. Much more than any newspaper, social media, tv etc can even conceive of doing, unable as they are of any real depth. So all they can do is generate more and more noise.
This guy named Roger Waters of Pink Floyd wrote this song way back in the 70s which is a perfect commentary on today's America. Millions of people, generations upon generations, have been raised by over protective, neglectful, abusive or entirely absent parents (all the same thing psychologically speaking). So easy to reproduce but much harder to come to terms with your own issues. So for us to just condemn and lay scorn upon these people is completely missing the point. They are victims in the true sense of the word. They are longing for something, or recreating their past - all of it unconsciously of course.
There is no political solution to this, because it is not a political problem to begin with. Any political solutions, even if they appear to work, would be akin to wrapping tape around a leaking pipe. The real solutions are not the kind which generate a lot of back and forth noise and all the usual stuff - hence nobody is interested in it. It doesn't stimulate, it doesn't give rise to self righteousness, it doesn't create outrage. It is deeply humbling and introspective.
No politician is going to come and save you from yourself. There is no salvation there.
