Hi everyone,
I wondered if you could help me here, I seem to have run into a huge problem with one of my PC's, it would not boot anymore (actually it doesn't work at all).
It happened when we were playing a game on a network (1 hour) and suddenly one system shut down automatically while the other went to the desktop. Fortunately one is OK but the other is stone dead would not power up at all.
Here's a list of what I found out and did so far to try to fix the problem:
System Specs:
Intel PIII 600
MSI Mobo MS6166
128MB PC100 RAM
Integrated Creative 64 sound
Integrated ATI Rage 128 16MB RAM
Seagate Barracuda ATA 20GB
3COM Network card
DVD Rom
17in Monitor
Everytime I switch on the power nothing works but the fan connected to the power supply works for only 1 second before it stops (I can repeat this because it only happens when I reset the CMOS jumper (JBAT), otherwise it would not work, although I don't no how good this information is to you)
Basically, everything connected to the mobo did not work, but fans work for 1 second before stopped, their power drawn directly from PSU.
Replace PSU with another and same thing happens
Reset CMOS jumper is also no good
The battery was removed and checked to see if it was dead using a meter before putting it back (the battery was nearly out of life though as well)
tried to remove certain hardware that wasn't needed and left the CPU, RAM, Video, etc, but lead to no good
Well thats all I could think of to do, and I think it may be the problem with the mobo or the battery though, but I am not sure, so I wanted to ask you guys/girls about your opinion before I fork out some money buy mistake. Thanks.
