Motherboard Chipsets 101 Needed?

I have been geeting suggestions across the net on motherboards for a new budget build. I will just be using this for basic internet usage. Maybe video editing. No gaming. $400.00 is my limit.

Can someone explain the difference in the chipsets?

P35, 945P, 405, 690G, 630a, g31, 945GC, 570SLI.....I am so confused.

That was unnecessary... sorry, it's been a long day. I would just recommend you get something simple and recent.

Integrated graphics narrows the field to

Narrow it down to new enough:

690G
G31
G33
G35

Find yourself a quality motherboard:

Asus P5K-V

Add an Intel Pentium E2160 2GB of DDR2 and put it al in a good case with a QUALTITY PSU... cannot stress that last part enough...

My wife did actually just buy a dell laptop.

My desktop was a NF-7 V2.0 that fried about a month ago and she have me a budget of about $400.00. My ATX case is still good along with my hard drive and I still have the XP disks.

This is a list of motherboards that have been suggested to me for a low budget system.. See why i am confused.

I would recommend one of these for a budget build: all with 4 x ddr2 slots, and all have both DVI and D-sub video out.

It uses the G33 chipset instead of the G35... slightly less graphics power and thats about it. But once again... no gaming!

I've used this case a million times and haven't had any problems with it. The PSU is solid and efficient.
