I just threw together an EP-8KTA2 with a Duron 600 at 900MHz. Cheaper than the Abit and supports ATA100 via the southbridge. Nice board.

The KT7 (RAID or non-RAID) is pretty good. So is the Asus A7V. If you don't want RAID, then I'd go with either the A7V or KT7, whichever one is cheaper.

EP-8KTA2 is quite interesting if it supports PC100 RAM cause i won't have to replace the ram.
I want to push the 700 Duron up to 1Ghz, if you have your 600D @ 900 then i guess i could do it up to 1G huh?

Thanx for your help,

Super6 what settings are you using on the 8KTA2? I ordeded mine from bunta.com and it will be here Tuesday or Wednesday, I am going to use it with my factory unlocked Duron 650MHz.

I would suggest that you go for either an ASUS A7V or a MSI K7T Pro2 board. Both overclock well and both are very stable. If you get either one of these you won't regret it. I just kinda regret that I was impatient and didn't wait for the K7T Pro2 board.

Silencer,

Just to let you know, all of the Duron boards available now support PC100 memory.

Thank you paulip. Can you tell me how that works? I built my first system last year(celeron/P2B-F)
What does the fsb of the Duron run at? and how is it different then the memory speed? If i remember correctly, I thought the FSB was also the memory speed.

For the KT133 chipset, the memory clock can be determined two ways:
1) mem clock = FSB
2) mem clock = FSB + PCI = 4/3 FSB

This means that you will have a choice to either run the memory at the same speed as the FSB or to run it at the FSB * 4/3. The PC133 memory uses the latter setting and the PC100 uses the former.

Current Socket A systems run on a 100MHz FSB. The new ones that will come out soon run on a 133MHz FSB, but will not support the second mem clock setting.

tjll11a,

If money were not a factor, then you'd have the following:

Asus A7V
TBird 1.2GHz
Refrigeration system for cooling
Geforce Ultra2
PC150 RAM
and the list will go on....

If money really were not important, then I'd probably still get the MSI K7T Pro2 and just get more RAM. Featurewise the boards are somewhat similar and performance differences are marginal. You'd get more out of your invesment by getting either more RAM or a kick butt video card (if you're into gaming).
