I started out running my Q6600 G0 on my $60 MSI P35 Neo2-FR. Since it topped out at 3.4GHz on air cooling, I started to wonder if I was cooling limited by my AC Freezer 7 Pro. I switched to water cooling and to my suprise, I still topped out at 3.4GHz. After looking into it further, the MSI had some pretty bad Vdroop so everyone blamed the board for my poor OC.
After some discussions with a few who shall remain nameless (AHEM Mainly AIGOMORLA) I bought a DFI LT P35 at more than twice the cost of my MSI P35 Neo2-FR. Needless to say, that board was a nightmare. So many bios options my head wanted to spin PLUS the fact that my chip topped out at.... yep, 3.4GHz. While the DFI was a nice solid board, it's quirks were too much for me to handle so it's gone. Luckily the buyer is a current DFI user so they know about the DFI bios.
After having my $60 MSI basically perform on par with the much more expensive DFI, I am a little gun shy at buying the next replacement for fear of hitting yet another roadblock. Since I am currently without a mobo at all, I need some input as where I should or should ABSOLUTELY NOT go next.
I'm leaning towards a $60 Abit IP35-E since my brother has one and his G0 runs 3.6GHz in it. I know that doesn't mean mine will get to 3.6GHz but it's at least good to know that it should get me back to at least 3.4GHz and for around the same price as my MSI. I'm not afraid to spend more for a "better" board but I don't want burned again like with the DFI.
