Motherboard for Quad 6950s

I'm looking for a motherboard that could support my 4 6950s. X58 is pretty outdated right now, so it'll probably have to be socket 1155. Do you know of any motherboard that could support that? Will the paltry 16 lanes of PCI-E be enough for my cards? I don't want to wait god knows how long for SB-E, I already have the cards.

The problem with the current SB motherboards they only have x16 or x8x8 configurations. Anything more than that like x16x8x8 or higher are usually supplemented by a 3rd party chip from Nvidia usually and therefore makes a quad Crossfire on a SB board either not possible or not worth it.

The closest choice you have is X58 but if you're willing to wait, then it would be either SB-E or Bulldozer. For Phenom II X6 or upgradable to Bulldozer it would be the Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 which is able to support 4 cards. For X58, there are a lot of different choices of motherboards which support quad Crossfire.

as does MSI's 990FXA-GD80 - it has 4 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots. unfortunately, newegg's product description only specifies the number of x16 slots, and absolutely nothing about the possible crossfire configurations. to make things worse, MSI doesn't even list this board on its official website yet, and so its specs can't be referenced there either. however, assuming the PCIe lanes will be set up similarly to the way they were set up on MSI's 890FXA-GD70 (their AMD 890FX chipset solution w/ 5 PCIe x16 slots, 2 @ x16, 2 @ x8, and 1 @ x4), then the 990FXA-GD80 should be able to crossfire 2 GPus @ x16 and an additional 2 @ x8.

x58 is your only choise right now...there affordable now,even on the forums you can get a killer deal on x58 stuff...im going to run mine for a while as its so damn fast and rund flawlessly....you cant go wrong with x58 imo....
2011 socket is now put off till march so youll be waiting awhile....
