hi, i was hoping that someone could possibly help me out. i am building a new machine, i have the antec 1040b case/power supply and an Abit vp6 motherboard. After I have everything installed, and I plug in the power cord, the LED indicator on the motherboard lights up, but the fan in the power supply does not come on. When I try to turn it on, nothing happens. I have tried just about everything I can possibly think of, which is why I finally came here to see if I could get some help. I figure it is one of three things, the motherboard, the power supply, or the switch on the case. I would be inclined to say that it is the motherboard, because I attempted to use another power supply that came from a working machine, and it still did not work. This time the results were different however, as the LED llight did not come on, and there was only a high pitched noise that came from the power supply. I am baffled. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Do you have any other devices in the machine (Harddrive, CPU, RAM)? Because I know that ATX PSUs do a check to see if you have that stuff installed before it powers up. But I am unsure if the PSU's fan comes on before or after this process.

well, to check to see if its yoru switch, take a metal object, like a screw or something and connect the bridge of the 2 pins that you plug the switch onto the board. This effectively starts the system.

the hum from yoru powersupply that you got, happens when you plug in the leads backwards (well it did on AT power supplies i dunno bout ATX ones)

I'm having the same issue that this guy had. One of my procs burnt (I think) but I went and got another proc in and it is still doing it.

To be fried do processors have to be cracked? Is it possible that testing it in another mobo might burn the new mobo/psu?

Does the power supply have a fuse or something that might have been tripped by the motherboard when the bios detected the temp was too high to get it shut off quick?

When I turn on the system (with the front button) The power led and HD led, and master CDrom led flash briefly and the yellow indicator led on the mobo lights up until I unplug it. No fans, HD, etc. start. What do you think it sounds like? if I tried the mobo or psu with my friend's similiar system is there any chance it would damage it?

Thanks
