Motherboard problem

Last night my comp can't see my usb cd rom I plug in after I start my windows xp. I reboot my comp and windows xp loaded until it says something about lsass.exe initialization error before it turn off by itself.

I disconnect my network cable and boot from cd-rom to make sure it is not a worm. The XP boot cd only goes until trying to start windows when it also turn off the pc without any warning.

I had tried my component one by one(excluding power supply and motherboard) with other computer and seems no problem at all. Is there any way I can know for sure to test bad motherboard ?

I can't test my motherboard with other computer, because it is a microatx system with only 160Watt ps I am affraid it does not have enough power for the motherboard and my video card(GEForce 5900FX)

It does sound like the Sasser worm, I'd check again if I were you

that's what i tought also, but then I reboot it using windows xp CD boot disk without the same hard disk connected. It does not report any error, it just shut down.

Sorry, I'm confused.........

XP CD boot disk: do you mean XP Install CD because AFAIK you can't boot XP from a CD, and are you saying that you don't have a hard disc connected at that point?

Have you tried booting into safe mode, aborting the shutdown with start->run->shutdown -a. Run the system file checker (SFC.exe /scannow - make sure you have your XP CD handy)

If you're internet connection works ok, download sasser worm removal tool from symantec, if it doesn't delete your hosts file and try again

I've tried several tests,

I 've tried to reformat my drive and reinstall the xp, so I boot using Windows xP install cd. But I can't even start the installation program, it shut down when loading keyboard.dll

I've tried to boot with windows xp install cd with only 1 cd rom and and healthy hard disk connected. Same thing happen as above.

I tried 1 by 1 the component to my other computer and it boot properly.

So, is this still the external USB cd-rom? Have you installed XP from this device in the past? Are you using a USB keyboard? Given the error message about keyboard.dll, check your keyboard and mouse are plugged in the right way around

can you copy the XP install files from the CD to the hard disc and install from there?

When you install WindowsXP, do not plug in the network cable until you have a firewall software (or a hardware firewall) running to protect it. Suggestions for a happy, wormless computer.

This system has running xp without problem in the past 10 months. I boot from internal cd-rom. The keyboard is a ps-2 keyboard. My router has a firewall each comp in my LAN also has software firewall(2 tiny firewall and 2 using build in sp-2 firewall). I already disconnect that little ah heck from the network when I try to install xp. I'll try out if I can copy to hard disk and install from there.

Just want to give an update, Finally I got my new motherboard for $53 it's an ECS. Now my system up and running. Thanks for anyone who posted response.
