The last few days my computer chokes at post. It stops at proecessor speed showing 433 to 566 when its actually a 2.7ghz.

Specs: soyo dragon lite board, celeron 2.7 processor with 512mb 2700 memory. WinXP and basic software. Nothing has been overclocked and running default cmos setup.

This setup has run smooth for over 2 years without any changes or problems like this. My question is the board going out or the processor. Re-booting it after it hangs like this work fine without errors. It just once in a while stops and shows wrong processor speed.

Any ideas on what i should replace?

I have that board (PXP400), Ive had no probs, the only think I can think of is that maybe the cpu pins that tell the mobo what cpu it is are not always making contact. maybe reseat the cpu.

Or possibly the cmos battery is going, also you might want to reset the cmos.

Thanks for the reply, yeah i already tried resetting the cpu and all cards. The battery tested good with a meter too.

I dont know if the cpu is going out or the board. My setup has always had a good surge protector on it but wonder if something got spiked anyway?

thats pretty weird.. its possible the board got spiked but thats an odd way to go bad.

have you tried manually setting the fsb in the bios. maybe go from 100 to 101 or 133 to 134, whichever the 2.7 uses. maybe that would cause it to detect the cpu in a different way. kinda a long shot but I honestly have no clue what could be wrong. if something is going I would suspect the board though.

once it detects it ok it runs fine? no lockups or bsods?

Yeah i played around with default cmos, and manually setting it too. Same random error as before.

Yes, once i re-boot everything comes up in post ok and system runs great. I think im going to order a new board and give it a try. Maybe even switch over to a newer processor if i run across a proc/board combo deal.
