motherboard standoffs help

my case came with the standoffs and also these red cirle like thin azs well as screws. I though these red things were used to prevent direct contact with the standoffs. However when i tried to boot the monitor stayed black. When i took the mobo out of the case it posted. After i accidentally installed the red things above the mobo under the screw that went into standoff. When i tried to boot again there was some kind of spark and my psu is dead now. I have tested the mobo and there doesnt seem to b any damage. Was this caused mby the standoff instalation? Thanks for your help

Hmm, those red rubber disks are normally made of a non-conductive material. They shouldn't have shorted your board directly.

You did make an incorrect assumption, however. Your motherboard should be screwed directly to hex nuts that screw into the motherboard mounting plate. A good solid connection to the case's mounting plate provides the motherboard with an ideal ground connection.

Isolating the motherboard from the case may have indirectly blown your power supply because the system wasn't grounded sufficiently.

hmm im not sure whether the grounding was sufficient. I was working on a wooden floor and i touched the metal part of my case regularly. Would this be sufficient enoguh?

afaik is the psu the part that does the grounding. not the case.
