Motherboard standoffs in Antec P180...

The case came with 9 standoffs preinstalled. The thing is, they aren't brass, they are a silver color, but the book says they are brass. There were 3 additional standoffs that are brass that came in the bag, but they are different then the ones installed in the case. Also, is there a way to remove them without damaging anything? Thanks

You have to drill them out from the back side or break them out. They should be suitable for 99% of motherboards anyway. I leave them in. I'm sure they are steel and not brass.
Are they in the way?

If they were dangerous, I doubt Antec would have pre-installed them.

***YOU must screw the brass standoffs into those silver pegs. You, like me did not recieve enough brass standoffs. I only got three also and had to buy more at Comp USA. DO NOT SCREW THE MOBO DIRECTLY INTO THE SILVER, IT WILL LIKELY SHORT YOUR SYSTEM***

in my Inwin S50-IW, the P4 Williamette HSF standoffs were colored differently. Differen't purpose, different color.

Edit: Nevermind. Can't be if only three.

WTF Frackal, the silver standoffs are fine, I used them with my Asus A8N-SLI Premium board and nothing shorted.

Cuz Antec is perfect huh? HUH?!?!

Erm, whats your problem?

Id suggest trying the Antec website to find out if there is a manual with decent info on there.

Anandtech also has a Cases & Cooling forum which may provide you with better answers and less aggro.

Yep. Actually I have a P160, and let me tell you the plastice front of the case is crap. I won't go with an Antec case again, I have a Lian Li on a slightly older machine I have, it blows away any Antec rig.

Lian Li is more expensive, but you do get what you pay for I guess, and the craftsmanship of Lian Li's cases are second to none.

I love the P180, with a few exceptions. Mainly the flimsy front door and no rollers for a 40+ pound case fully loaded.

Really? Well that's a relief then, I was told that the silver standoffs were simply pegs for the brass (others recieved more than the 3 brass) and that simply putting them into the silver would short the system.

Good to hear it didnt.

I just build a P180 system last night. Same thing, silver/cooper issue. I screwed the MSI board into the silver pegs no problems. If you screw brass into the silver, it would elevate your motherboard and then the PCI cards would not properly fit. Nice case but flimsy door. If they just put the on/off switch outside the door, I would not have to open that thing everytime I use the machine.
