Hey everyone,
Just signed up here, and I have a little problem someone can hopefully help me with. I have built my own computer but I am having some problems with it.

Computer Hardware:

Powermax BIO II Black ATX (case)

OPS: Windows XP

660 ATX OKIA (power supply)

ASUS P5N32-SLI-Deluxe (motherboard-socket 775)

Inel Pentium 4 Extream (CPU)
-CPU Fan
Kingston Ram
- 2 sticks dual channel (2gb)
- 1 stick (2gb)

Fujitsu 30gb (hard drive)

ATI Radeon X1650 Pro (Video Card, PCI-E)

Linksys g-card (wireless card)

CD Rom Drive

Problem: I have everything in my case and ready to go and I plug in all my stuff and turn on the power. The only thing that turns on is my CPU fan.

Possible Solution: My motherboard only has a 8pin (12v) connector where as my power supply only has a 4pin power connector. So I am making the assumption that the motherboard will not function with out the 8 pin (12v) plugged in.

Motherboard Manuel: http://dlsvr.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/so...32-sli_dlx.pdf

Also I found a converter for a 8pin (12v) connector and possibly that will fix my problem? Thanks for your help and I hope to get this resolved soon!

Hmm I just looked at the manual for my P5N32-SLI Premium motherboard and you are correct you need an 8-PIN 12V cable from the power supply to the motherboard. But every power supply that meets the ATX spec since the late 90's has this connector. If you have a 660W PS I don't understand how it cannot have the 8-pin cable. The 4-Pin cables are to power CD-ROM drives and IDE hard drives. Unless I am missing something.

Every board I've used will accept the older 4 pin 12v connector on the newer 8 pin connector. Something else is wrong. I would remove the board out of the case. Place it on a phonebook, with just the cpu/heatsink, one stick of memory, and video connected. You may have to remove the power supply for the leads to reach the board. You won't hear any beep codes without a speaker connected to the board. Use a flat screwdriver touching the power switch pins to turn it on.

you should be able to use the 4-pin on an 8-pin cpu power connection. It is a P4 EE and shouldnt need an 8 pin. Is it Possible that the processor is dead or the 20-24 pin power connection is loose? Make sure that both the 20-24 pin connector and the 4 pin connector are plugged in all the way. Also could be your PSU burned out. Get a PSU power tester and make sure that the PSU and all its connectors are working. Its also possible that the mobo is dead. Does your graphics card have a fan on it? If it does, does the fan come on when you power on?

so lets see here I don't really understand what you are saying o1die can you be a little more specific?

As for ThaJollyMan My videocard does indeed have a fan and it does turn on when I hit my power on.

ok so here is the deal.

I have everything connected, My motherboard is connected to both power conectors, my CD ROM drive and my hard drive all hooked up. When I hit the power on button the only thing that happends is that my CPU fan goes on, my video card fan turns on and one more thing, the LED's in my powersupply also turn on. But they flash. I know they are suppost to stay steady.

Also my Processor was brand new retail in the box never opened. I don't really think it is that. If you think it is necessay to re-connect my Processor let me know. Also I have posted this in Power Supplys on this forum and I have gotten such responces as my motherboard needs to be securely fassened to the motherboard plate or else it wont run correctly.

This is a real mystery to me and I really want to get this resolved if you know what I mean . I'm considering bringing it to my local computer store where they charge $33 to even look at my computer let alone fix anything. Just let me know what you guys think and if there is anything I can provide you to help let me know. I know it's hard to do with out it being right in front of you.

OP, What he is basically saying, Remove everything from your case and start from scratch. Use only 1 stick of RAM, your vid card, 1 HD and make sure your CPU is seated correctly along with your HS. I have had a cpu not seated correctly and when powered up, nothing. So double check. Also by setting it on a phonebook, it takes the shorting out the board possibilities, which is what O1die is also trying to advise you on.

Before disassembling anything, I would try booting with a SINGLE RAM stick (like the others mentioned).

If that doesn't work, try another RAM module.

In many cases, a bad stick of RAM is the culprit.

Good luck!

EDIT: And when you successfully start the computer, immediately go to BIOS and set the memory timings manually. Very important on the NVidia 650i/680i motherboards!

Just plain good advice anyway.

Forgot to add: set the memory VOLTAGE manually, too!

And make sure that your RAM has the same specifications - it is sometimes hard to make a mix of 1GB - 1GB - 2GB modules work.
