Sounds similar to my current employer. You won't see an IT guy around here for months (we actually got desperate and hijacked one of the senior techs to start reghosting the machines due to viruses we notified them about a week ago), but all of a sudden files will be randomly deleted (including occasionally the only copy of a driver we need, or a zip of not-often-used solutions for older machines), systems will be moved around, etc... Just general jerks about the entire thing.
Yes, tech support reps are about a dime a dozen, probably cheaper. The senior techs occasionally get respect, but rarely. And the L2s/Product Specialists are crapped on because we're supposed to set an example and so on. Bleh.
And yet I look into the server room and see personal equipment laying all over there. Heh. (But then again, they run NT on the servers, so that could explain the need for speakers.)
