Moto X (2013) vs Moto X (2014) vs Moto G's

I'm comparing Moto phones in India:

X 2013: Rs.18k
X 2014: Rs.32k
G 2014: Rs.13k

I like the size of the 2013 X model, it fits real well in my hand, dunno about the 2014 model.

Is it worth buying the old Moto X over the new Moto G?
Battery life is worse on the X (i guess), better camera + better display on the old X.

How about software support?
Btw, the MotoX (2014) was a regression compared to the old X with regards to battery right?

How did you figure this?

I honestly think the first gen Moto X is the best Android smartphone that has been made so far.

Exactly. The size was right, and no other phone I've used has fit into my hand that well.

We need a new midrange phone:

Same size/ design as the MotoX (2013),
New SoC (not necessarily quad core or S805: something that gets the job done and does not kill the battery during intensive usage, might be a 2+4 big.LITTLE design)
10/13MP Camera
Display - 4.7 inches AMOLED (>720p would be nice, but 1080p might be pushing it)
Battery - >2300mAh

With nothing like that out yet, I'm stuck between the 2 MotoG's and old MotoX.

Btw, the Moto X (2013 + 2014) battery results seem to be all over the place:

Anandtech places them below average, but other sites say the battery lasts long.

Does anyone have any personal feedback? Comapred to an iPhone / Nexus 5/4

When I replace the screen on a Moto X I acquired in the coming week I would let you know how it fares against the Nexus 4. It can't get any worst than that battery life wise!

If you can live with the Moto X 2013 not have expandable storage I would go with that.

Well, and the fact that it was released when Google still owned Motorola and it was very obvious that this was the device that Google pretty much made them make. Stock Android with tweaks that came in later versions of Android? This thing was very future forward for the time, and gave us a glimpse of what could be if Google made their phones too ala Apple.

It's a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde experience with MotoX battery life. I think it's a highly tuned device that does incredibly well with standby time, talk time and *basic* on screen stuff. But anything that starts to tax the CPU in there even slightly chews through battery life. When doing any sort of gaming on it I felt like I was losing 1% a minute. Video playback wasn't as bad, but still really hurt. And poor reception areas will crank the radio and kill it in a matter of hours.

I'm very preferential to both the 2014 X and the second get Moto G.

Definitely want the slightly larger screen, and having quad core will be better in the future

Web browsing and Reddit kill my battery life.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my impressions of the 2014 Moto X having read most reviews is that it still has mediocre battery life and the camera isn't much better. So basically you get a larger screen, a nicer frame, and a faster chip.

Can't say I ever had a problem with reddit. But I used a picture browser for it. I could hammer on it pretty good with screen time on the weekends and not worry about battery issues. But as soon as I tried a game it would just destroy my battery life.

That's never been the case with me. Reddit News Pro, browser, all eat my battery life with extended use. I don't game but that's known as a battery killer.

Love my Moto X, but the battery life and camera are mediocre. Definitely not the best Android phone.

So what is the best Android phone then?

The problem is EVERY Android phone has SOME sort of flaws. Seriously, you can't name one without flaws.

What is special about the Moto X is that it is the only device that gives what I feel is the best experience (aka pure Android) in a form that normals can use. It is ASOP for everyone. That is why I pushed so many friend and family members to get one. It is the Nexus for Normals.

For me it is Moto Assist, Moto Voice, and Touchless Controls. I gave my wife my One+ as I had just gotten too used to the convenience of those features. And this is why I haven't purchased an N6 yet, I'm afraid I'll miss them again.

Vote for old Moto X.

Haven't played too much with Moto G but it looks like a cheaper and clunkier Moto X.

But old Moto X has soft touch to it. I hate hard metal in phones. Makes no sense at all.

I vote for the original Moto X, too. Camera is kind of lacking on that phone, though, just so you know.

BTW, does anyone know what the difference between XT1053 and XT1058 is?

Right now? I'll vote Xperia Z3 and Z3C in those size classes. For a phablet I'd say Note 4.

Pure Android matters little to most consumers.

I have the 2013 G and recently upgraded to the 2013 X. The surface area is pretty much the same between the 2, but the X has a display that is bigger because it doesn't have as much bezel as the X. You don't notice it going from the G to the X but you do going from the X to the G (as I learned last night when I turned on the G for the first time in a week or so).

The X is thinner and lighter - I really notice this when holding it in landscape mode.

To me the '13 X is the perfect size as I don't want a bigger display and I love it's thin-ness. I also love the additional functionality but I'm still new to it so I have a fair bit to learn.

The HSPA+ on the G made it fairly quick for internet stuff, but there were places it would definitely be dog-slow. The 4G on the X is pretty much wifi speed all the time so definitely no going back for me.

I'm not a gamer so I can't provide any insight on that. Battery life seems pretty equal between the 2 - no complaints for either of them.

No experience on the '14 version of either so I got nothing on that front.

I've really started to appreciate my Moto X lately. The nice thing about android is that it has managed to get faster and better looking with subsequent releases, while Apple has gotten slower and uglier and dumber.
