But here's what I've said before -- who cares about the specs?
I feel like this $199 is geared towards US consumers who can't handle full priced phones. As a result in order to penetrate the market, we need dumbed down specs. Sigh.
Well at least they can always drop the price. I'm sort of waiting to see what the fall note III and iphone refresh will look this this fall anyways.
$100 more, 8GB, no LTE, cheap materials, made in somewhere in Asia...

At the time it was released it was mid to high end. That's where I would put the Moto X, leaning more towards mid.
I don't think anyone can argue 720p, dual core, 10MP camera are all features of a midrange device when talking Android. The bar has been set way higher by the HTC One, S4 and Experia Z. This thing is lackluster compared to the S3!
I saw this:

So, a couple more months and there will be a cheaper version.
I think we need break the spec races. If it's just as responsive with a Dual core + custom cores as the latest Snapdragon quad, why spec race?
If the camera images are just as pleasing, why MP race?
In day to day use, if it ends up being more useful, why complain?

It still doesn't compute in my head how S600 = 8960 on this phone. And this thing has Adreno 320..? What am I missing here? I thought 8064 plus Adreno 320 equals S4 Pro, and 8064T plus Adreno 320+ (higher clock) equals S600. 8960 was associated with S4 Plus, IIRC.
Not all of us game. I'd rather have a more responsive camera and UI. Much more useful to me. Even the S4 stutters about once in a while. No, we don't need to break the spec races. I, for one, enjoy the better gaming experience offered by higher end hardware. Sure, I don't need much oomph to flick the app drawer, but fire up something like Real Racing 3 (with rear view mirrors enabled) and the difference between a high end and midrange device will be immediately apparent. To a smaller extent so will 1080p.
Think of it this way. A Honda Civic is a better car, day to day, than a Bugatti Veyron. But if Honda offered the Civic for somewhere around a million dollars they'd sell approximately zero of them, because anyone looking for a daily driver would opt for a much cheaper alternative from Toyota (read: any number of $0 to $50 midrange devices with comprable specs offered by HTC, Samsung, LG), and anyone looking for "best of the best of the best" would not consider paying flagship pricing for a mundane device.
This thing is a fish out of water. There's no way I'd buy this over an S4 or HTC One, or even Experia Z. Never mind pay a $50-$150 premium to do so.
