Playing with the Moto X right now at the store. The experience is pretty much the same compared to the HTC or S4. Just the slightest bit slower in bringing up a webpage. I need a new phone and am figuring on this one.

gorilla glass to me is no better than any other glass. i've had friends who had their iphone 3gs, 4s, 5, galaxy 2, 3 all with broken screens. what's the benefit of gorilla glass?
Scratch resistance. It's not designed to be shatter proof.

As others said scratch resistance. I have had my droid bionic in my pocket(at times with my keys) for 2 years without a screen protector and the glass is still flawless. I have probably dropped the phone from higher than 3 feet around ten times and the glass never shattered.

Adopt a friendly Canadian. The Rogers off-contract price is CDN$550 (about US$525), albeit without Motomaker.

There are Puerto Rico market unlocked ones on eBay for $480 now. Unbranded no bloat ware att band models

For some reason white ones are much cheaper

The camera was one thing holding me back on this phone. I still wish I could get the final word on battery life for it. The claims of 24 hour battery life are honestly crap. I just wish I knew if it could go 8 hours of heavy usage.

I've only ever had to charge it overnight. I listen to podcasts on Youtube in the morning, use it for GPS, surf Reddit, and watch Youtube/Netflix. I did all that in one day when I had like a three hour wait at the doctor's. In the end, I just got home in time before the battery went. I'm pretty happy with the battery though if I used it for a lot of calls it may drain faster.

On my droid bionic I killed my battery in 1 hour 9 minutes of on screen time. This could honestly be the worst phone ever.

I take my phone off the charger every day at ~ 6 am and in the two weeks I've had the phone I have not had less then 30% at 6 pm when i get home. For comparison, my Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) would be dead by Noon pretty regularly if i didn't constantly plug it in every chance i got. The battery life has, IMO, been absolutely amazing. I can easily get 4+ hours of screen on time day after day.

I do have it rooted with Greenify, but honestly didn't see all that much of an improvement when i added it.

Gorilla glass main benefit is its scratch and face impact resistance nearly all broken phone screens come from edge breaks (someone dropping it and it landing on its side on the edge of the glass) GG does have a higher edge strength vs other types of glass but its not a cure all. also phone design plays a lot into how well a phone will absorb an edge impact even with the same glass

Picked up my Moto X on Verizon with their unlimited plan contract renewal glitch this weekend. I had recently replaced my Rezound with a DNA; loved the screen, but the battery life with lots of screen-time was atrocious.

From the first full charge down to 10%, I got 41+ hours runtime with 78 minutes of voice calls and 2+ hours screen time. Next one was nearly 30 hours with 3.5 hours screen-time and 26 minutes voice calls. Not bad at all.

I love the smooth performance. It is absolutely tiny in my hands compared to a DNA with a case on it. I have a Seidio Active arriving today or tomorrow. I have large hands and the X is actually a tad small to hold securely in one hand, mainly I think due to the sloped sides. Looking forward to having the case on it.

Touchless features are pretty cool, though I don't use them all the time. I haven't received a call or text while driving yet, so no experience with Assist. I declined to activate the Moto device management features since Google now supports it.

I really want to root and get WiFi tether working, but I'd rather wait until after Verizon gets the camera fix OTA out. The only other issue I noticed is this morning all of my sound volumes (including notifications and alarms) were very low, even though the settings were up. A reboot fixed it; weird.

Tip: Run Google Drive on your X and on first run it will launch the product tour with an offer for 50GB storage upgrade free for 2 years. If it disappears or doesn't work, you can access it any time by launching the product tour under the settings menu. For some reason it wouldn't access the offer when I was on WiFi, had to switch to LTE.

After rethinking this phone for a bit, it honestly is the phone I'd recommend for people to use out of the box. I'm just unimpressed with the G2 and S4's skins. The HTC One is decent though. Or maybe I'm over-valuing the AOSP Holo look?

I don't think so. There are a few, very minor usability tweaks you can gain from 3rd party skins, but I love the stock Android 4.2+ interface and usability.

Still enjoying my Moto X very much. Average battery life until dead seems to be 30+ hours, though I still charge it most nights. FoxFi app works perfectly for tethering without root, though I may root it once the OTA with camera update comes through so I can use the free WiFi tether which doesn't require a security lockscreen.

Every now and then I have issues with the touchless control; either not responding or some combination of music I'm listening to will cause it to activate and listen for commands. Otherwise, it's solid, fast, and I love it.

The Moto X had a $100 price drop about two weeks ago. Old news, but I didn't find any posts about it. There has been some back-and-forth in [thread=2337159]The official Nexus 5 thread.[/thread]

I'm considering getting it for $60 with AT&T contract at Amazon. Amazon also has the One Mini for $10 (AT&T).

In terms of hardware, the extra $50 gets you twice as much memory, and a bigger battery.

In terms of software, the One Mini has Sense, which is one of the better done OEM skins (including Exchange support superior to stock Android). However, the Moto X's Active Notifications have changed the way I use a phone. Specifically, I don't need to unlock the phone as often, or use the power button at all.

Thanks for the insights. Amazon's price went down again to $50, and Walmart's Black Friday ad (p. 20, Event 3) has it at $49 on-contract with $100 gift card.

Surprise, surprise. If the sales figures are to be believed, Moto X is a total flop. Only 500,000 phones sold. Which isn't surprising to many here. Everyone said the phone was too expensive for the specs when the price was announced. Every knew except for Motorola and Google. It was as if Google wanted additional tax writeoff. Now it's too late and the damage has been done. Who's going to buy Moto X when they can get cheaper and better Nexus 5?

Remember when the Nexus 4 came out? It didn't stop people from buying other android devices at various price points.

However, there are people who buy on contract, or who want a one-handed friendly form factor, or who are interested now that Moto Maker is more widespread.

I bet sales pick up a bit. At the moment it's a typical Moto limited launch.
You can only buy it in North America, and isn't the Moto maker thing limited to one carrier (or was)?

Er, so what? Since when have device sales spiked months after launch?

Especially with Android, you have to sell while you're the new shit, because there's always newer shit around the corner. Yes, Samsung's still selling plenty of S4s, but even for that it's not as many as near launch (though more than the X...).

I guess it'll be a while before the next wave of new releases, but the X isn't going to magically flip its market position: it's beaten on the midprice front by the Nexus and on the high end by the same high end devices that have been eating its lunch to date.

i bet they dont pick up. every week that phone gets more obsolete. that phone has been buried in store and on websites by g2 and nexus 5. even motoG will be identified by customers as "better" because its quad core (yeah i know it doesnt have the voice stuff, its plasticky and the camera is worse). did they succeed in fooling people into thinking a phone with a two generations old chip with alleged software optimizations was as good as a current phone? no, but hopefully they learn their lesson for the next generation
