Motorola Cable Modem model SB5100. The local Target has a ton of these on clearance for $34.98, sku #090-00-6532. CC has this modem at $79.99 with a $20 MIR. Use the floating CC $10 coupon, Price Match to Target and with the $20 MIR, modem comes out to about $5.00 plus tax.

Why not price match to CompUSA if you have Concast in your area.
They have a couple of rebates if you signup for cable internet.

It made it $9 after starting at about $70. Sounds like you'd makemoney if it worked.

The CompUSA site shows the $20 rebate. Also valid at MicroCenter, BB etc.
Gotta love that American TV & Appliance is in there. Good old Crazy TV Lenny.
Wonder if I can get a free bike with the modem.

BB also had an activation rebate at one time.

BTW, the Comcast deal at CompUSA gets you 6 months for $19.99 here in New England.

OK if you can find one at Target this just got Super HOT!..

I found a $20 Rebate coupon at Amazon Front Back

Notice there is no stipulation of place of purchase.

if can't get a CC PM you can at least get for $14.95 I checked my two local targets (Sarasota, FL) and No Dice for me...

Might be a little of topic. But I bought this modem at Circuit City and signed up for Cox HSI. Price was $80, with $20 usual rebate, $60 new sign up rebate, and $50 CC gift card.
I might try to do the PM, but I have a feeling it might invalidate the rebates.

Comcast charge $3/mo for a modem. It used to be $5/mo but then they reduced it to $3 while at the same time raising the internet fee by $2. Basically, if you're with Comcast, it's not worth buying your own modem. It only costs $36/yr and as long as they own it, they have to support it.

Not true. I have had the same modem for over 4 years. Originally, they gave you $10 credit, but now it is $3 credit a month for using you own modem. So, since my modem still is in use some 5 years later, it IS worth your while to buy your own modem at their current prices. Unless you might switch to DSL, buying your own modem should be worth your while. I wish I had done the same.

My sentiments exactly. When I signed up 4 yrs ago I read it would be better to rent because comcast might upgrade technology which might require a new type modem, but I'm still using their 5100 and paying them $3/mo.
