Motorola Droid officially announced

Looks like most of the rumors were correct. Android 2.0, 3.7" screen with 854x480 resolution, 5MP camera with dual flash, keyboard, 16GB memory card, and the first phone to use Google's turn by turn directions. Looks pretty solid.

The new phones coming out with Andriod 2.0 looks to have a ton of potential. A coworker of mine is going to get the Moto Driod (or HTC Droid Eros). I'm still locked in contract, but I would love to get an HTC HD2 running Andriod 2.0, that would be outstanding.

i love my tp2 but i will admit that this thing looks pretty damn awesome. hopefully one of my friends gets one and i get a chance to use it for awhile. and kudos to verizon for not only stepping their phone game up but also being more open to different platforms and allowing google gps maps and the rumored free wifi tethering and other apps on their phones. verizon went from the crippled, no good/late-to-the-party phones but excellent service company to now just kicking everyone else in the nuts.

yep, basically the same innards of the HD2. Though admittedly, the Passion looks ugly imho in comparison to the HD2. Still a pretty good hardware set.

As much as I'd kind of like to get a Snapdragon phone, I'm pretty set on the Droid because the form-factor is amazing and also carries a physical keyboard. I didn't realize how much I'd miss a keyboard until I switched from my Samsung Glyde to the Samsung Omnia. I can use the onscreen keyboard fairly well but would love to have a physical keyboard. The thinness of the Droid PLUS it being a slider is just awesome.

seriously. Verizon woke up and decided it was through playing games.
They pulled out all of the stops, and everything they are doing with the Droid product line, combined with their customer service and awesomeness of the network (plus now owning Alltel)... the wireless game has seriously changed. Verizon wants to tackle the entire wireless world, more power to them. Google + Verizon ? :heart:

I for one welcome our new GoogleSkyNet overlords.

Arg. It's going to be very tempting to wait for the Passion. I for one don't really care as much about the looks as the functionality. I have a Voyager and I usually use the physical keyboard, but mostly because the screen's sensitivity just isn't up to par.

What do you guys think the price point of the passion will be?

i havent seen any screen shots yet of the keyboard it uses when using the touchscreen in portrait mode, without the keyboard slid out. anyone found anything on that? i have the omnia, i kind of missed the physical keyboard at first but i have adjusted pretty well to the portrait samsung keyboard. so much so that i rarely use it in landscape mode, and find it a bummer to use both hands to text or enter web page addresses lately. i do like the droid so far, but am curious about the native soft keyboard it has. i also really like the dialer interface, very clean and nice looking.

Same boat here, my New Every 2 is 5 March. With the demand this thing is going to have, I don't think I can convince them to move it up.

Thinking about getting it coming from iPhone 3G in a non-3G AT&T area. The EDGE speeds and sluggishness of OS 3 on the iPhone 3G are starting to wear on me...

My new every 2 isnt until next October, but I dont care.
I only have a one year contract and thats ended as of last week. I will go ahead and sign on as a new customer to get this bad boy. I was going to get a Hero from Sprint but they pissed me off so it looks like Verizon gets my business for another year. Shame because over a two year period Sprint is cheaper.

I would only get minimal voice and full data, but there is a slight difference. Of course, the Droid is so much better I'll eat the cost.

Would have had an iPhone, except ATT's network isn't worth a damn where I live - to the point where I can not make or receive a call in my own house. Only Verizon (baztardz though they are) have reliable signal. I'll be getting one of these, I think.
