How do you like this phone and how are the updates / security for this phone?? Does Motorola stay on top of updates and support?? I am looking to move from my win10 phone to the Motorola.

My wife has had a G5S Plus since November and it's the only smartphone she's ever owned that she doesn't claim is "being weird". So, that's a plus.

Updates and security? Haven'te really had it long enough to know.

I have a Motorola G4, very similar to the G5S +. I receive updates about every 4 months. I can't speak for the security features though as I do not really make purchases with my phone or even use social media as much. The sound quality is great, the camera is decent enough ( it takes a while to get use to it's draw backs such as : terrible low lighting focus, shutter speed response, and manual focus ease of use). However, for the price you are getting a huge screen with 1080p res, a great cpu that can handle most games and video streaming, and at least 16gbs of storage, maybe 32 now, with a couple of gigs of ram for cache? It's about 1/3 of the price of a Samsung with about 3/4 of the performance of a Samsung. I like mine's a lot.

I've had this G5+ for a couple weeks now. It's different from the win10 phone I had and am still learning the ropes. Wondering what's the best approach to using google maps with this phone??

I also went from Win10 phone to android- a LG G6. It will take a while to get used to android. Google maps works great. The app should be on the phone from the factory.

Practice, it has lots of features such as downloadable local maps, bike routes, pedestrian routes, local eateries and points of interest. Just dedicate some time to learning it every day, so it becomes second nature. (If you're a daily commuter)

Yah activation required, so I guess that means you have to pay for at least one month. Then you can use it outside the Fi network. The lowest one-month payment plan for Fi is $20 (call + text only). You pay $10 per 1 GB of data as you go until you reach 6 GB of data, from which point on data becomes free. (with throttling kicking in at 15 GB)

Or you can just think of the price of the phone is $270. (250 phone + 20 fi) Give them $20 and take the phone to a service provider of your choice. I think it's still a decent deal.

Alternatively, the OP might consider Xiaomi and Huawei's latest offerings. They have a lot of good phones at $200~250 price point.

I have the G5 Plus as my primary phone. The screen is very good, you won't realize it's only a 1080p screen. It's a vanilla Android OS phone so it runs very smooth. I think of it as a high end phone with the lowest high end components if there is such a think. The Cadillac of the mid grade phones. Motorola aka. Lenovo does do updates pretty regularly. Their customer service is a joke but who needs it. The camera was awful when the phone was released but software updates were released making the phone good enough. It's just an opinion but the flagship phones by the other brands all have high end cameras. They take really good pictures. My backup phone is a LG G3 with an exceptional camera for 2014. The G3 has a 1440P screen but the Moto G5 Plus screen looks better. The battery is bionic for video and if you use google maps where the screen is on nonstop. Expect around 8-10 hours of full operation. It has rapid charge feature so that battery charges from 0% to more than 60% in less than an hour.

There is a G5S plus with a bigger screen. The new G6 plus will be coming out in the next month or two. Unless you can get the G5 Plus under $200, I would wait for the G6. It is fully unlocked which means you can use it on any US carrier.

It was supposed to get the Oreo Android upgrade but that has not happened yet. The Android security updates are Jan 1st 2018.

In "Battery Saver Mode" how much battery capacity should the moto G5 Plus loose over a 24 hour period with just the standard apps loaded?? And in "standby mode" ..no phone use.

Battery life is finicky, even between the same exact phones. When my phone was brand new I wouldn't dip further then 70% with very light use, a full charge would even last me a few days! A few years later with medium use, youtube streaming, I have to charge nightly and I'm at 25-35% battery at the end of the day.

Try this (clear cache partition) little trick. It's almost the same as doing a hard reset of your phone after a big software update or many software updates.
