What do you mean by slowdown w/ a router? I have this modem and a Netgear RT314 and consistantly hit my cap limit of 3mb/s down.

Yeah.
No need to scare people away from this deal.
If your getting slowdowns, it's more than likely something with your configuration/ setup.
The Surfboards are known for their speeds and compatibility.

Again, i would caution anyone getting this modem who intends on using it with ANY router.

there are hacks out there to fix these problems, i'm not going to direct link, but anyone with common sense and a google toolbar can find them.

It is a known issue that the SB4100 does slow down when used with a router. There is currently a firmware update out there, but you have to get your ISP to update your modem for you.

Any idea which firmware fixes the problem? Like I said, I am generally at my cap limit.

BB in Fort Worth, TX, is selling the SB4100 for $79.97 plus a $30 Motorola rebate, making the modem $49.97 after MIR. Those who bought from CC last week could pricematch BB and get back $50.02, plus two rebates, CC's $30 and Motorola's $30 rebates. Manager from CC (Irving, TX) just gave me the pricematch. $19.97 for the SB4100 if you bought from CC (3/31 - 4/27).

I know this is a little OT, but I don't have an AMEX blue so this deal is not so hot for me, but I need a cable modem. Any other hot deals for one floating around that are still alive? Please feel free to PM me if you like.

Thanks

This probably should be in Brag 'n' Moan, but here's some details in case anyone can duplicate my deal......

I bought this modem for $129.99 at CC with the $30 rebate on April 2nd. They also had a $50 gift certificate if you were a new subscriber and signed up through CC (which I did). AT&T also had their free sign up kit with the 5 ten dollar off coupons. Since I had to come back the next day to sign up (their sign up website was down the first trip), they gave me a second AT&T kit.

Sent in the $30 rebate (with the photocopied UPC). Signed up for the $50 gift certificate. Two weeks later I received notifcation of not one, but two $50 gift certificates via email.

I was happy as could be until I saw this week's sale. Went down to CC to see if they would credit me the difference between the old $30 rebate and the new $80 rebate. (30 day price guarantee) To my suprise they gave me an $80 credit on my MasterCard AND printed me a new receipt dated today.

I'm almost scared to try to send it in for the $80 rebate......

129.99-30 rebate -50 AT&T -50AT&T -50Gift cert -50Gift cert -80refund
= minus $180 (maybe minus another $80 rebate)

Man where are you guys that have a B&M BB with a $79 price on the SB4100? I was just in there on Saturday and they were $129 - same as their website. I just got my rebates ready for the CC deal, but I can get it for $79 pre-rebate I'm in there like swimwear!

DC,

The rebate from Best Buy is the same one from Motorola.
The rebate from Circuit city is a different location than the one from Motorola. So if you buy it from Circuit city you can submit two rebates (one for Circuit City and on for Motorola). Hope that clears it up for you.
Go to Circuit city to see the rebate here:

I've looked over the technical specs for the 4100 and 4200 and can see no differences. But apart from the relocation of the On/Off switch, there is this blurb from the 4200 press release:

"The latest model in Motorola?s industry-leading SURFboard family, the SB4200 incorporates a 66 percent faster micro-processor that results in significant performance improvement."

Since cable modems operate at FAR below their potential on every cable system in the country, how exactly does a faster CPU net you anything as this claims?

Alright I've been to 4 different BestBuys and they were OOS in 3 and $129 in the other one. Those of you that got it at $79 (hella good price), where did you get it and can you scan a receipt (w/store #)? Maybe I can get my BB to match yours.

Careful about demanding sale price using receipt copies. BB sent the cops on the guy who did the same on HD deal. I've called 3 BB around, none has the $79.....probably just a price mistake. The SB4200 is more of a cosmetic change than anything else. If you read the tech spec....SB4100 and 4200 use the same processor, at least the same name.

Well I wouldn't say I would be demanding... I never read the details of the Lilburn, GA BB story, but IIRC it had something to do w/a GF4 that some people were getting for ~$100? Now that is an obvious price error, but in this case, a SB4100 (which is being discontinued) that normally retails for $129 could very well be cleared out for $79. As it is quite a few PriceWatch vendors have it for ~$95.

From Motorola's site: "The Motorola SB4200 will be available in May. Some cable operators and retailers will be distributing the new SB4200 cable modem once they exhauset their inventory of the SB4100."

Oh, btw the SB4200 _does_ have a faster processor, but for most (all?) of us, we will hit our cap before we get to the max of the processor so it may be functionally equivalent. From what I've gathered the external changes are Standby button moved to the top and a Standy LED is added.

In any event, if I got a scan I could ask Customer Service about it. Hell it doesn't hurt. Not like I'd make a scene or anything. And since I've been laid off, money if more valuable than time

ok, i just recently signed up for cable with Adelphia and I am very interested in pickin this one up now that i see the crap one they are lending out. has anyone ever heard of "Com21"? Well to me it looks really cheesy so i wanna pick up my own. Now i know i may be asking this too soon because no one may have any info on it at this time, but can the sb4200 be unlocked as the sb4100 can? This is the only factor that is holding me back from making a purchase.

EDIT: I just noticed somethign strange on the enpc website, it may be just be a typo:
