Motorola SB5100 cable modem $33.49 AR

CC has the SB5100 on sale with a $20.00 and $10.00 rebate making it $49.99 after rebate but Wally world has the same modem for $64.99 so have CC match that price from there regular price of $79.99 to save about $16.00 plus I got a 10% price beat on top of that so after rebate it will be $34.99 or there abouts or 1 year of renting at 3.00 per month.

I am scared to go off my rental unit, ive heard of others who have tried modems and ended up going back to a rental unit after having issues.

I have rented for 1 1/2 years and never had a problem other than asking for a upgrade as my RCA modem was not what I was suppose to get as I was told I would get a surfboard. I don't feel that $33.00 is bad if I get two years from it as that would be $72.00 rental fee and there is a 2 year warrenty that comes with the new SB5100 so I would be covered and I would just go and renta a modem for the month I would be without a modem.

I would never have a tech come to research a problem as when they installed the cable I had to configure it as the tech had to read from a book and keep calling in to hook it up
so I steped in and finished it myself.


It took me about 20 minutes to connect up and download the updates and 1 call to comcast to update modem list on there servers and make sure I had the new 4m download 368 up speeds

Well, I guess you forgot to read # 3 in the link you provided because that along with hundreds of other post on dslreports tell you which cable modem to get, and guess what... it's this one. While you're at it double check your phone bill to make sure your not leasing your phone or paying for inside line maintenance and search today?s posts to find Craftsman wrenches at 50% off so you can take the training wheels off your bike.

My current modem is a Toshiba PCX 1100 that I purchased back in 2001/2002 was free after rebates. I just purchased a Motorola SB5100 tonight. First CC I went to and requested PM to Wally's World said they would match the price, but would only give me the Motorola rebate ($20) and NOT the CC rebate ($10).

Second CC said they would match price + 10% of diff additional off, so I got the modem from them w/ both rebates. Nice deal, but it will take a year to pay off, but at this point I am already well ahead by not leasing.

That's fine, as long as you don't mind being without your cablemodem for 2 weeks while Motorolla mails you an RMA. (As compared to Comcast which can come out next day to replace your rented modem, or you can go there same day to get a replacement modem.) Renting looks like a better deal to me.

All you have to do is go to comcast and rent a modem for 1 month while yours is out being repaired simple as that. I wish I could get a service man here the next day as it took 3 weeks just to get hooked up and I had to call and complain about waiting to get it that fast. I held for 45 minutes sunday on the phone waiting for costomer service just to get a price of the rental units.

What is there to break other that the on/off switch with a cable modem unless you are hacking the incoming signal for faster speed and frying the modem on your own doing.

Owning is not for everybody simple as that.

Went to buy this today and the manager wannabe 'customer service lead' guy said he would only give me the price match, or the rebates, not both. I was pretty sure I remembered people in past deals on ATHD saying "He took my rebates and tore them up. Ha, little did he know I can go home and print them out". This hasn't change has it? Buying in the store, you can still print and use MiR's off the .com, right? He has no way to disable my rebates in the computer I assume? He did take the rebates that printed out and tossed em. What does it matter to him? Jerk.

Also wanted to let everyone know that they had quite a few of these left at my store. I was a little surprise considering this is pretty hot.

As another point of reference, I have had great luck with my Motorola SB5100 using Comcast.

Bought new and would never consider renting...... Reminds me when phones used to be rented.

The sales man in the computer area told me no also but when I paid for it at the service desk I asked them to price match and they said sure and called to varify the price and gave me there price and then handed me my rebates no questions asked.

Yep you could use the rebates from there web site as the actially companies don't care what you paid they just offer 20.00 off and CC gave a extra 10.00 off.

This is truly a YMMV. The first CC that I went to would PM and only give me the Motorola rebate. The second CC gave me a PM + additional 10% off the diff + both rebates. I have been using the modem with Comcrap w/o any problem, but had to wait on hold for about 25 min to get the MAC switched over. Modem is very nice, sure beats the old Toshiba.

Was back in CC today modem is still on sale, plus they have an additional rebate tp make it free with new activation. I had previously called Comcrap to see if they would do anything to help out a long term loyal customer who need to replace his modem, but did not want to discontinue service to get a new activation discount. They would do nothing.

Someday maybe the cable companies will do something for for long term loyal customers like the cell phone companies. Atleast with them they give the customers a break on new equip every 1 to 2 years.

Renting in Northern VA with Cox costs $15/mth ($180/yr). I bought the SB5100 for $40 after rebates from CC and couldn't be happier.

Much better modem than the RCA one I was renting, I was getting frequent disconnects with that one. Bought mine for about $50.
