So, I just got an SB6141 as a gift, I attempted to add it to my Comcast acct, and now I think my modem is bricked. Just curious if anyone has any ideas/suggestions. Here are the steps I took:

- hooked up the modem to the coax and directly to my PC (no router)
- got redirected by Comcast to an activation page upon opening a browser
- provided my acct/ph# so Comcast could find my acct
- Comcast found my acct, recognized the modem, and I clicked continue to
activate
- got a status bar that said it was activating, the modem appeared to power cycle, and then it the indicator lights would alternately flash between the green power LED and the blue LEDs below.
- eventually I received a failure from Comcast, saying they could not make a connection.
- now all the modem will do is flash lights. I do not get a redirect when opening a browser, and I cannot connect to the modem's HTML manger at 192.168.100.1.
- My old modem still works, and I can see that Comcast has activated my new SB6141, but it doesn't work at all.

so, the question is... Is it worthwhile to call Comcast, or is my SB6141 a warm brick?

Call them of course, Maybe it just wasnt provisioned properly and there are things they can push out and try to diagnose the modem.

That is a docsis 3 modem, they are very signal picky, you probably need a tech visit to balance your signal levels, to be honest.

I work for comcast, this is not an uncommon issue for home self wiring jobs. Popele think thay cna just plug them into any coax outlet in the house, it does not work that way it needs to be balanced for the return correctly.

Thanks for the responses. Would that explain the fact that I cannot even connect to the modem management interface directly via CAT5, and that the modem used to boot as normal and it did initially connect to Comcast?

My initial guess is that the Comcast pushed a firmware upgrade that failed for some reason. Is that possible?

I also just had new siding put on our house, and the contractors messed up the coax. As a result I had Comcast come out and fix the line. This was just a few months ago.

Either way, it sounds like I need to call Comcast.

I had something similar happen with a self-install attempt with a SB6121. Kept boot-looping. Had to call to provision it.

My modem will not allow me to hit the management page once it downloads a tftp file from Time Warner. If i remove the coax and reboot it lets me hit the page again, but connect coax and get internet and I lose web management.

Are you sure its not just acting like a switch until it connects and is then acting like a bridge?

can you see the signal levels at 192.168.100.1 when its connected?

Couple of moto modems enable a DHCP server for some unknown reason when they do not have a connection, but once they are connected via coax they disable them, no idea why moto thought this was a good idea, but it kind of sounds like what your having happen.

No, as soon as the device registers with my ISP the page is no longer available. There is not a dhcp server enabled on the modem, this happens on my ASA

Update on this... I contacted Comcast, and they indicated that my SB6141 was on my acct, but it was not properly provisioned. The support rep said she needed to transfer me to their activations dept to get the issue resolved. I got disconnected during transfer, called back, and talked to another rep that gave me their direct line. So I called that number, the department was closed, and the VM said I should call back during normal business hours. I got up the next day, was all set to call Comcast, plugged in the modem, and it was completely dead. Tried re-plugging the cable a few times. ...nothing. It's currently on its way back to Amazon.

When I get its replacement I will probably just call Comcast from the start.

final update: Got the replacement, tried an automated activation, and it worked without any issues.
