Motorola SBG901 Issue

Hi there, I'm having a really weird problem with my Motorola SBG901 wireless cable modem. I need to change the wireless security type on my modem but I can't access the configuration page in which to do so. Neither the default ip address (192.168.0.1) nor my current ip address work. So I've tried hard resetting the modem and for about 30 seconds after doing a full reset I can access the configuration page with 192.168.0.1. However, any changes I make during those 30 seconds such as resetting to factory settings or disabling the wireless security don't last. After about 30 seconds the modem resets again and goes back to its own settings. I've never seen anything like this and I have no idea how to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you actually have control over your cable modem? It sounds like the cable company may be pushing configurations to it. Have you tried to do this without having the cable connection plugged into it, out of curiosity?

Get yourself a Nice Wireless Router, configure it as an AP and use its Wireless instead of using the Modem/Router Wireless part.

You probably can get much better Wireless too if you get Good dual Radio Wireless Router.

Sounds like your modem is dying honestly. If it can't hold factory default settings I'd say its toast...

I'd get two different devices as well. A combo wireless/router and a dedicated cable modem. I never have liked the all in one router/cable modem/wireless products. Too many eggs in one basket.

It not a problem at all to put inside the Plastic box a Good Modem with a superb Wireless Router.

The problem is in the current nature of the existing products.

These combos are manufactured for the sole purpose of being "Cheap" because in most cases they are given free by the ISPs to the customers.

Yeah, I agree. I have never seen a "good" combo anything honestly. Standalone products are vastly superior but are too costly and bulky for most consumer use hence the AIO devices.
