He already said that he doesn't have unlimited data.

OP, out of those options get the S4. Saving $100 upfront on a $2000+ contract is silly when the $100 will get you a much better device.
This.

Looks like it'll be the S4. The screen of the S4 isn't even that much smaller than the Galaxy Note series.

Got the S4 at target last week on sale for $150.

Pretty happy with it so far

Yeah... the Motorola 'enhanced' version of Android 2.3 was terrible! I suffered through it with my old Droid X, and it was very sluggish and unstable.

I switched to an S3 about a year ago, and I'm thrilled with it.

Well to be fair, Motorola made alot of great phones back in the day and I hear that their next phones are supposed to shake things up a bit.

That doesn't change the fact that I'm still a little ticked off at them for not upgrading the X2 from GB. I'll probably buy motorola phone again someday, but it will be awhile.

I vote with my wallet.

I suppose I could qualify as a Samsung fanboy for having a Samsung TV, Washer and Dryer, 3 SSDs, 1 external DVD R/W, Blu-Ray Player and now a phone.

The X2 only had 512MB of RAM. Very few if any phones with that little RAM ever got OTA updates beyond GB. If there were any, they weren't on Verizon.

People were ticked at Samsung and Verizon for the same thing with the Droid "Charge," another 512MB phone that never got an OTA beyond Gingerbread.

The Original Droid 1 was a beast. It could take a beating and it would still run.

Yeah... but the original Droid ran stock Android. Most of the other phones that Motorola shipped after that had "Motoblur"... which sucked hard.

Here's the thing, with Motorola now, you can't go wrong with them since Google owns them.

Motorola has already kicked MotoBlur to the curb since Google bought them.

Phone is now rooted 4.2.2 VRUAME7

Little more work to root this one than I've had to do in the past for other people's phones.

I had format my mSD card to exFAT and run terminal lol.

Haha. I used a one click root method.

I'm pretty sure there is nothing like that available for the Galaxy S4 yet. The most recent method discovered for the currently available build (VRUMAE7) was only discovered a couple of days ago.

Question about your sig: are you saying that Linux is only free if your time is very valuable? I would think Linux is free if your time isn't very valuable...

I have the S3. Nice phone, but it can be a little sluggish, and the battery life is meh at best. I suggest if you get an S3 or S4 to get a cover for it. My S3 slipped down my leg and onto the ground. The screen cracked in the corner.

I know... but I'm still holding a grudge about the lousy job they handled Android updates for my old phone. It seemed like every version was even further behind the curve, and had even more bugs.

I hate how they held the Original droid back on 2.2 even though they could have rolled out 2.3.6 for it.

You guys are right, but you have to remember that at that time in the game, maybe they really didn't have a say. I mean every other OEM was rolling out a new Android device while Motorola was rolling out crappy devices such as the Backflip, Devour, Cliq, Flipout, etc... So they were getting bogged down by trying to find their right device while being under contract with VZW for Droid phones. Then they get hit with lawsuits/patent arguments over their design so they had to release ridiculous looking phones and take a hit on those.

Anyway, what I'm getting at is Motorola of old is gone. This is a big assumption (but I think a solid one), Motorola will now be able to support all of their current phones + their future phones and send out the latest Android updates now that they are a Google company. It only makes sense that they would able to release a solid, stable build to their devices.

So whatever you knew about Motorola before this year, forget it because like I've read, it's now Goog-orola.

Anyway, I'm glad you got the S4. It's an amazing device. I had that for a bit of time, but I had to get rid of it for stupid reasons.

We will see if the X is locked down or not.

That's true. It's all banking on if Google is really taking control of the company or still essentially allowing it to do it's own thing.

One thing to note is that since it will be on all carriers, then it might not be unlocked as probably 90% of the Android techies are hoping.

If its locked on Verizon and AT&T, then fine even Samsung does that now.

If the unsubsidized one is locked, then its the same old Moto and I hope they enjoy being the next Palm.
