motorola surfboard 5100 firmware upgrade?

how can you make this happen?.....does it have to be done through the isp?........my isp is claiming that the issues i am having with my internet d/l speed is b/c of a firmware issue that is motorola's problem.....motorola is saying it is the isp's responsibility to roll out firmware updates.....can i not just update the firmware myself????

Sounds like your ISP is nuts. The Motorola 5100 is a fully DOCSIS compliant modem and should work in any system, the firmware should be pushed by the ISP. Is it the tech support rep telling you this? Ask for his\her supervisor and have the problem escalated to the local field manager if necessary.

i bought the modem......from what i understand from reading some different sights, is that firmware has been an issue in other cases of speed issues......docsis compliancy is really not the point........the modem works, but what happened is, the isp double their up and down speed from 1.6/128, up to 3.0/256......ever since the upgrade, i've seen issues w/my down speed......i'm only gettin like 1mb down, where as b4 i was getting like 1.6 consistently......my upload is good, staying around 240-250......any more ideas?

Just remove power completely. Using the on/off switch won't suffice.
The same procedure is also required when switching from ethernet to USB connection.
