I know Amazon has the V.60 for $300 with a $300 MIR. I went to my local (Wichita, KS) T-Mobile store with the Amazon deal. The girl who helped me asked her manager if she could offer me a comparable deal. His reply was to sell me the V.60 for $100 with a $100 MIR! I took two of them! My salesperson was very helpful. YMMV.

I cant comment on the customer service and signal coverage for T-Mobile yet but this deal was too hot to pass up. I understand that T-Mobile is formerlly VoiceStream. We got their Family plan: 800 shared anytime minutes, unlimited weekends, unlimited T-mobile to T-mobile minutes, no roaming, and no long distance. 12 mo. contract. Can any speak on the quality of T-Mobile's service?

Hello,

I have been a Omnipoint/Voicestream/T-Mobile customer since August 1999

Unless you travel a lot into rural areas like the California desert, T-mobile will work fine in most major cities.

I also like their cheap international roaming rates which apply to me and of couse their cheap national rates too.

Don't be fooled by Sprint's 3500 mins per month where you only get 350 anytime whereas you get 600 anytime for the same price with T-mobile

Great phone and service provider.

I think you got a great deal at a T-Mobile store. I went in their and told them, "Yeah, you can get it online for free after a bunch of rebates". Guy tells me "Well, Online stores sell refurbished models, and we sell it brand new. Besides, Online stores are not trustworthy, they can take your money and never send you the product. Then you have to fight with your Credit Card company to get a refund". Then I said outloud, "Sure, Amazon.com is running a scam, you never heard of AMAZON.COM?", complete silence.

See, T-Mobile pays a few hundred dollars per activation to resellers. Some will eat some of the cost and give you the phone cheap, others won't. I"m guessing with Amazon's purchasing power and limited overhead, they're eating some of the cost...

well i'm used to be in the cell phone biz on the east coast and about a year ago the V60g by voicestream was $285 dealer cost and the comission for a family plan was a little shy of $200 and the comission for a $39.99 was a lil over $200.. so if u do the math and sell 2 v60's for $100 each, ur making like $20-$40 per phone.. but if they cancel the plan within 185 days you will loose all of ur comission and be out $570 on phone costs. Would you risk loosin almost $600 to make $80? I know that the comission structure is different in other markets but the cell phone industry is not an industry where we sell 40 phones a day.. at least not from one store. Well thats my 2 cents for people out there that think we cell phone dealers are out there making hundreds off each deal.. it just doesn't work that way..

In NYC, they charge you cancellations fees in upwards of $250. I believe if you want to buy a phone in Best Buy and deny instore activation, they charge you $200 more. Here, most mom and pop cellphone shops will charge you the money for the phone and after 5 months, send you the money in the form of a rebate check.

Is there anyway to get in on this sort of thing if you are already a customer? I have been with voicestream for 3 years but I could use a new phone - mine is pretty trashed.

Yes, call Customer Service and ask for a phone upgrade. The more years and plan value you have, the better your deal. Your best bet is to ask for it, and if they don't give it to you free or for some stupid value like $1, hang up. Call back and cancel your plan. They'll forward you to retention. Tell them about the Amazon deal and how they are giving it to you for free. If you an outstanding contract though, you're sh-t outa luck...

I got the V60g from Amazon in August, and this is my only phone. I'm not a big user, but the service has been flawless so far. I'm located southeast of Seattle. Sound quality is darned near as good as my old land line. (Having a tower 200' behind my house might have something to do with that.)

Outstanding Contract, in other words, are you still locked in. If not, call...

Oh, ok, I get it. No, my contract expired almost 2 years ago.

I sent an email to T-Mobile's customer care and asked if they would upgrade one of our 2 phones (we're on the family plan).

You're better off calling, their email support is useless. Chances are they are probably going to tell you to call the 800 number anyway...
