Not sure where you guys are getting the $250-$400 commission per activation...It's no where near that high.
I worked at a Verizon Wireless store in Ohio as a non-commissioned salesperson (internship thing)...But anyway, the commissioned sales people have a sales "quota" they have to meet each month to stay in sales. Generally, based on past performance, it's around 75 new activations per month. Assuming they're making $250 per activation this people are making $18,750 per month, or $225,000 a year. In a retail job. This is not the case. If you don't believe me, keep in mind that most people sign up on plans between $30-50 per month--meaning Verizon would clear no money until after month 8 of a one year contract.
The commission is, in fact, somewhere between $30-50 per activation, depending on the length of contract and the expense of the plan chosen (higher $$ plans = more commission). Also, deactivations within the first two years of service are CHARGED BACK against the salespersons commissions for that month. So, if I signed you up in July 2001, and after your year runs out, you cancel in October 2002--I lose a portion of the original commission.
The v60c is a nice phone--but if they're dropping prices it's because something better is about to come out.
