Motorola v60g - FREE at Staples B&M after MIR & Coupon with Cingular Activation

Was at Staples the other day shopping for a label maker. I've been in the market to purchase a pair of the Motorola v60g phones for hookup with Cingular. Anyhow, while at Staples, they are having a big promotion for exactly what I wanted, v60g with Cingular service. The phone had a price of 289.99 attached to it, however, there is a 140.00 MIR from Staples on the phone, and also either a 120.00 or 80.00 MIR from Cingular, depending on whether you take a 2 year or 1 year contract. On top of that, I used a 30 off of 150 coupon that I printed out, which can be found in the normal places. So to recap it's:

-140.00 (Staples Rebate)
-120.00 (Cingular 2 year Contract Rebate)
- 30.00 (Staples 30 off 150 Coupon)
----------
- 0.01 (They pay you a penny after all is said and done! )

You will have to wait for Cingular to send you the contracts for the plans you sign up for, put your signature on the contracts, and mail the contracts back to Cingular. About a month after that you should be looking at your rebate check. The one from Staples, requires a copy of your first month's bill with Cingular, and then it takes whatever time it usually takes Staples to send out their checks. (In my experience, about 2 months with Staples)

I signed up for a 2 year contract that gave me 350 minutes peak time usage, 1000 minutes nights and weekend usage for 29.99 a month. Then I added a second phone to the plan for my girlfriend, and we share the plan minutes for an additional 16.99 a month. Comes out to 46.98 a month for both cell phones. Not too shabby in the long run.

I did this deal at the Staples on Park and 55th in New York City. Hope this helps someone out there.

Where is this $140 rebate? Is it done through which rebate company because I cannot find it. Oh well I might as well just go into Staples anc check it out.

Also I cannot find any 30 off 150 printable coupons only 20 of 100. And it appears you cannot do this online but if you can you could use $40 off 200 codes floating around.

When you purchase the phone at the B&M, they will give you two rebates. The one for 140 is directly from Staples, also when they print out your receipt at the register, they will also print out another 140 rebate. The 120 rebate they give you is basically useless, because Cingular will automatically send you your rebate when you have signed your contract, and mailed it back to them. I just mailed my contracts yesterday, took them 4 days to get them to me via mail.

I tried looking at the Staples online rebate page as well, and this item is not listend there. None of the skus or part numbers on the receipt were picked up as having a rebate. This is a B&M deal only I think.

Ok I went there confirmed what Aos said.

They also have the Nokia 3360 for $129 then use $20 off $100 coupon, then $120 (2 yr contract) rebate, and $100 (Staples) rebate, making $110! Also if anyone else is like me you can still get a $80 rebate from Cingular with just a 1 year contract. They had a lower model Nokia but I wasn't intrested. If your in the market for Cingular cell phones this is a HOT deal, I've been looking for a while and I'm gonna get this.

Only thing I don't like about the 3360 is it comes with a NiMH battery, but you can purchase a LiIon for it . Honestly I'm going to college and I don't need an expensive v60g to lose.

EDIT: Ok so I figured out buy.com and cingular.com have the 3360 for $90. Have them PM minus $15 off $75 coupon, $120 rebate, and $100 statple rebate. And make $145

I did the same deal in NYC except I price-matched the V60g phone with buy.com for $149 first. The store manager was not happy about it. He honored the price match but didn't let me stack the coupon. YMMV, but end result, $110 in your pocket after rebates if you take the two-year contract. Or $140 if you get lucky enough to stack the coupon.

I opted for the one year contract though - Cingular only gives you an $80 rebate (instead of $120) but you're not locked in for so long. After price match, you still end up with enough money in your pocket to pay for a few months of Cingular service

how does cingular "cripple" the phone??

Voicestream certainly doesn't. Not sure what you're referring to, but you get access to all features, and it's easily unlocked.

Voicestream will *unlock* the phone for you to use yes. But the flash on the phone is customized and not the generic flash that ought to be there.

For instance, on the Voicestream phone, there is no menu control for the status light because Voicestream took it out. That is no big deal really.

What is a big deal, is if you put another SIM chip into the phone from another carrier, and you want to use GPRS with the browser, you won't be able to. Why? Because Voicestream took away the menu to configure the browser for another GPRS service. So what are you left with when you want to use that particular feature of the phone with another carrier? Nothing. The menu to configure it is simply gone. I'm not happy with it, but I do have the phone. It works great no doubt, but I'm looking to get the phone reflashed with the generic flash so when I do switch to another carrier, I'll be able to use the phone as it was intended to with GSM standards.

This is the exact setup I have been waiting for (V60 and Cingular). Have been satisfied with Cingular for years and don't want to change my number, but their "best deal" from the Cingular store is about $250 out of pocket for the V60 (keeping my same plan), and I need two right away for myself and the wifey. Does anyone know whether this schweeeeet deal is just for new customers?

The v60g will not work on the AT&T system. I believe they need the v60t, I'm not sure on the exact details but from what I understand, the v60g is only usable via Cingular and Voicestream. Each carrier needs a different "chip" hence all the different models of the v60 (v60c, v60t, v60g, etc)

This deal requires you to have the phones activated. You might want to call Cingular and talk to a customer representative to see if existing customers are eligible for this deal. It didn't specifically say it was for new customers only, from all the paperwork I saw.

I can check to see if the phone is "crippled" if you let me know exactly what menu options to look for. I did notice that there was a menu function called "sim applications" in the menu.

I spoke with the Staples guy on the phone before driving over there; our local store is out of stock on the V60 until more are unloaded from a truck (may be at the loading dock for tonight's worker bees). However, our Cingular here in Birmingham, AL, uses a TDMA network which requires the V60t, not V60g. Surely, if the guy can sell me a Cingular plan with the phone, then it must be actually a V60t for our market! I will check the box before committing. Does anyone know where I would see the "t" or "g" designation on the outside of the box? Or is it on the phone somewhere? Does anyone know for sure if the Cingular part of the rebate is just for new activations?

i dont know about the v60G being cripppled...but between IT and the v60T (at&t), the v60t is the BARE-BONES phone.

its missing internet browser, games, calculator, and some other features from the v60g that I had. to add insult to injury, the v60G was FREE (AR) but I had to pay 150$ for the v60T

I am pissed at Staples!!!!!!

I was just there on Monday looking for a new contract and phone for Cingular. They are just getting the service here in my area of NY. They had nothing on display, only a couple of phones, and knew nothing about rebates. I asked them to search there system for any rebates for Cingular service activation and they found crap. I ordered the Sony T61Z directly from Cingular but have not received it yet. This deal is a million times hotter than the deal I got.

F Staples for not knowing anything, but I wonder if I can return the first phone and get the Motorola.

This phone is supposed to be able to switch from Analog and Digital. I haven't had a chance to test that out yet, but it's supposed to be able to.

Again, from all the paperwork I've seen, this deal requires an activation of either a 1 year or 2 year contract with Cingular. I looked at my v60 box last night, and didn't notice anything overt, that identified it as a g series phone, sorry. =\

The Staples I went to, is in New York City, on the corner of 55th and Park Avenue.

Thanks. I am up just above White Plains, so I would hope they have a similar deal being the same Metro area. I called another local store who had the phone for $329 and asked me to call back to find out about the rebate info.

How can people be so incapable of knowing the products that they sell. You would think the manager's would at least be prepped on new products. Figures you get a deal when you are not looking for one, and crap when you hunt for a deal.

v60g = GSM network (voicestream only)

v60t= TDMA (cingular & AT&T) the AT&T version does not have wireless web

v60c = CDMA (Verizon)

the V60t i have does switch from digital to analog ie 900->1800 coverage is excellent where I live also this is a very hot deal

I'm no expert on cell phones, but this is what I understand (someone can correct me if I get it wrong).

The V60g is a GSM phone. It doesn't switch to analog (I don't think any GSM phones do), it needs a GSM signal so make sure you've got coverage where you need to use it.

If you spend most of your time in the city & immediate surrounding area, you'll probably be fine. I have personally found Voicestream & Cingular's GSM coverage beats Sprint and AT&T around NYC, penetrating into buildings where even the analog signals from other two won't reach. But if you go out of the metropolitan area, don't even think about leaving the Interstate highways or you'll have no service. (I drove from NY to Toronto last weekend and had zero signal for a few hours between Batavia and Binghamton, NY along hwy 17). Since I don't take that many road trips and make 99% of my calls around town, the GSM service works well for me, but it's not going to be for everyone.

One nice feature about the V60g is that it's a tri-band GSM phone. That's no benefit in North America but it does mean it can pick up the GSM towers overseas, where they use the other bands.

It woudl seem to me that if you upgraded your plan and signed a two year contract that you would be able to get in on this deal.
I think I may just trade in and get that new ericsson it would be easier and not as big of a rebate but man that motorola phone sure is cool.....
