Wow, the timing on the steam deal is unbelievable - almost like i knew this was coming!

Trust me PC Gamers, this game is worth the $7.50

The Steam verision is NOT up to date on the latest patch, and so it may be a bit of a trial getting some mods to work and stuff (let alone that's it's the steam version to begin with).

HOWEVER, if you buy the game through Steam you can actually still download the regular version from taleworlds.com and once you install it it'll work just fine (it'll even use the save games you have with the Steam version).

Right now I have the Steam version which I bought, but I've been playing on the regular downloaded version since it is up to date on patches.

And just so everyone knows, the missing patch from Steam is for compatibility issues, which is not needed for the Steam version and likely why it was not released.

I just took notice of this game today. I did a bit of reading on their website and they have an expansion pack coming this September supposedly. MP and some other enhancements supposedly. The fighting looks very interesting. Its gotten huge raves for it. The game world content is a bit lacking supposedly as is the story line. I might give it a try.

this game was sweet. My main guy ended up with one big city 2 castles and 3 villages. I was rolling in the dough. Then I spent it all on knights and pwned everything.

I bought this game on a Steam sale a couple months back. Haven't played it yet as I have so many other games to play before.

I just hope it fixes a lot of the flaws in the game. Things such as:
Not being able to exit to the main menu during battles/sieges.
Much better use of formations/tactics and an actual minimap instead of a shaded square. I would love to be able to select who goes where when defending my castles/cities.
Much better AI that has many tactical variations. So far the AI either charges or slowly moves forward during battle.
Less predictable AI fighting during close combat. It is to the point I can predict when an enemy is going to lower his shield during melee. It's like the AI's combat is on a timer.
And so on.

Picked it up on D2D's $5 sale. It got massively good reviews on D2D but I'm not sure how. There's like no story whatsoever and battles are super repetitive, at least right now. Graphics are ok, but nothing great. I'm not quite sure what to do.

Any tips on making a character? So far I can take on groups of 9 bandits by self with little problem (unless i'm stupid and get caught in a group of them). I did end up fighting some deserters who completely raped me.

you make your own story. you can choose to be a mercenary, be a vassal to a king, lead a rebellion to overthrow a king, or you can just carve out your own piece of calradia.

for beginners, i would work on my 1 handed weapon and archery profiency. grab a decent sword like bastard sword and a decent shield. later on you can work on your archery skills but you need to also work on horseback archery to be any force while moving on horseback. you can rack up tons of exp. during sieges if you become good at archery.

I think thats why I tend to not like sandbox games. if i'm paying money for entertainment, I want it to entertain me, not force me to make my own entertainment. I want to sit back and relax not have to worry about making up a story or something. besides, these sandbox games are always too restrictive or almost force you into a particular play style.

you will miss a lot of good GAMEPLAY with that idea.

Get a horse and a lance as fast as you can. Run down ground troops and build up some reputation. If you think you can, pillage a few small towns and make a lot of money fast. You will have to kill like 50 farmers each time and they will never like you but its a good way to build up skills and $

Don't forget to look up some of the graphical mods out for this game. It makes a huge difference.

Anyone buy and download it from STEAM lately? Just wondering which is best way of purchasing it. Some earlier threads had something about missing patch or something on STEAM. I assume thats all dealt with now. I was looking at some of the mods. The Viking series of mods looked appealing to me. Not many games where you can fight as a Viking. Heh heh. A shame I missed the $7.50 sale but oh, well.

I believe it was/is one of the $5 games in Direct2Drive's anniversary sale. If that's still going on, you may want to check that out.

Thanks for that info, endlessmike! Its still available for $5. I'll have to look into D2D's features and see about buying from them. Hopefully DLing from them wont be a problem. I'm used to buying a hard copy via brick and mortar store.

As someone who buys religiously from Steam most of the time, I've bought a few things from D2D over the past month or so with this big sale, and they seem like good people.

I actually won a Twitter Trivia contest they had and got a free $50 game on their site (chose to pre-order Dragon Age, but then they put up Borderlands, so I emailed and asked if I could change my choice, and they nicely agreed to let me).

I've downloaded all the games that I've bought there without a problem, not sure how things will pan out down the road after a couple of operating system reinstalls and I need to install something for the 3rd or 4th time, but they seem alright so far (although I'm not a big fan of IGN, which owns them).

played some more. bought a lance and that makes battles 10x easier, lol. I'm at a point where none of the towns give me quests. I joined the Vaegirs as a mercenary and have a troop of followers but pretty much anything they have me do just annihilates me. I don't it.

The travel takes forever and battles are fairly boring. It's always the same thing.

Thanks for that info, Krakn. Good to hear some feedback about D2D.

The vanilla game gets old quick but there are some good mods last time I played that you can find through the forum on their webpage.
