I hit the trails in Tucson AZ.

There are some great hilly areas with great downhill/uphill and singletrack in the region just south of Dallas/Ft. Worth (Granbury, Glen Rose) that I ride. But I need to ride more.

Mine is a pieced together Yokota frame that will hold me over until I can afford my custom frame.

Yeah, he said MTN bike, but I don't have a MTN bike.

I live right in the middle of a big metro area, and I use my home as the home base, so my city bike is great for me. They call it a hybrid, but I'm in the middle of the city, and it's my bike, so I can call it what I want.

It's a much improved 2001 Trek 7300 that only cost me $240 to start, roughly 1/2 the regular price of a new one. I've got an additional $260 in improved parts on it, so I've got a sweet urban warrior that can cruise with the roadies, yet still run through city parks, up grass hills, and cruise the packed gravel rails to trails paths without a whimper.

dont laugh...

I got a 60 buck dynacraft Magna Glacier from Target last year that I use for my riding on both street and trails.. it does great. It doesnt have suspensions and it doesnt have more than 12 gears (of which I use only 4 gears). It works great for me, it weight is negligible (any lighter and I would have trouble teh weight is lower than my race bike in India) and i find it comfortable. I am yet to switich the brakes around but for what its worth the bike does great. I have to put some foam on the handlebar grips, but other than that its all stock.

Yes the bike has a thing on it that says not made for trails and rough riding but I do it even so.. i used to do it with my Street Cat back in India and I do it with this one too. If it breaks I will get a new one.

Better to have a cheap bike that you ride than an expensive one you hang clothes on. Nothing to laugh about here...

What are good mountain bikes? I used to ride BMX bikes when I was a kid, but I think i'd look kinda silly on them now. I'm thinking about either buying a used one at a garage sale, or buying a really cheap new one. 300 bucks tops, i'd rather pay 100. School me.

I tried, really I did. I used to be a hardcore nut and everything. But then this thing called 'running a business of 15+ people' came in.

ah heck.

Well, I do nearly have a bike, freshly bent by a careless friend backing out of my driveway. Barely a year old, brand new 2002 Super T, about 200 miles max on it over the course of it's short life... (ducks in shame) Anyone care to name any suitable replacements? Both swingarm and fork are bent, and I'm not going to keep even the intact looking bits just in case. Some of the bits have gone if for , er, 'warranty replacements'... cough.

Frame: 2001 Kona Stinky
Rear Shock: Fox Vanilla RC
Fork: Marzocchi Super T
Cranks: Race Face North Shore XS compact drive, 38T Blackspire ring + Blackspire DS-1
BB: RF ISIS DH
Rear Der: XTR
Front Der: Ya gotta be kidding
Brakes: Hope Enduro
Brake Levers + Shifters: Hope + XT
Wheels: D321 + Hope Bulb 20mm F/regular R + Sapim spokes
Tires: Nokian Gazzaloddi Dual 2.3
Saddle: Fizik Atlas
Handlebar: Easton Scandium DH
Stem: Pace RC46
Barends: Bwahahahahaha!

Rear derailleur: 8-speed XT
Front derailleur: XT
Brakes: Shimano XT V-brakes with Avid SD7 levers

I bought a used Trek Y33 from my friend who owns the best bike shoppe here in Ogden.
He had done some nice upgrades, eg. to the best Manitou Ti shocks, XT all around, Titanium bar.

It has some crappy power loss in the suspension, but when I compare the weight of mine to my friends' new Gary Fisher Sugars, I think I will hang on to this frame for a while. I would rather upgrade to a lockout rear shock than spend bigger bucks and end up with a heavier frame.

We have great rides here in Ogden.
There is the Bonneville Trail system that goes for miles and miles along the Wasatch Front, with lots of fun spurs.
We often go up during lunch and hop on at one of many joining spots.

Snow Basin, 15 minutes away, has put mucho dinero and work into adding top notch biking trails along it's mountainside.

Moab is 4 hours away.
St George is about 4 to 5 hours.

Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake is rideable even during the winter here.
