So I bought a 80gig g2 intel ssd, but I got the OEM version. It's coming on monday, and I'm putting it in an antec 1200 case. Is it possible to just like half assed mount it to one side of the harddrive cage without an adapter? Any other suggestions on what to do?

I've mounted drives with double sided foam tape as a q&d... not recommended for long term, but will work in a pinch. Places like geeks.com often have 2.5" adapter kits that adapts a 3.5" bay and has a connector adaptor for PATA connections. No adaptor needed for SATA.

lol, I half-assed installed my Vertex and its been perfect. It's not like it has any moving parts to make it wiggle or anything. The double-sided tape idea seems like a pretty nice idea though.

Yea, I was thinking the same thing with not having to worry about it vibrating itself to death or anything; wasn't sure if holes would line up right though.

I was considering that too. If I had something suitable on hand I probably would, but to go out and buy string or elastic good enough for it seems excessive when doing it to something that makes no noise to begin with.

I use the suspension.

Here is my system:

Coolermaster Cosmo S case
Corsair 430W
Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Intel E5200 @ 3.5Ghz
Gigabyte HD4850 1GB with fanless heatsink
4 x 120mm fans - using speed controls to make them inaudible
750GB Seagate 7200.10
500GB Seagate 7200.12

The Cosmo S case is actually pretty quiet if you tweak the 120mm fans.

Everything I buy, I buy with noise being a major concern and my system is incredibly quiet and even the seek noise is just barely there. If I did not have red CFLs and a LDC panel, you would have a hard time knowing it was on.

The single best mod I did on my system was to suspend the HDDs. The difference was actually shocking.

I took all the stupid push-button latches off the sides of the 5.25" bays and used some elastic cords from the Wal-Mart sewing section to suspend the drives.

Of course, noise is not an issue for an SSD, but the suspension makes it really easy to put drive in and take them out. No screws.

Lol, I couldn't put it in a 3.5 bay because the 1200 uses long screws to secure the harddrives and they won't fit in a 2.5" drive. So I mounted it to a card reader adapter with 1 screw and mounted it in a 5 1/4 bay. It's so small and light that it doesn't seem particularly stressed being held up by 1 screw hopefully doesn't cause any issues.
