Mouse devours batteries

I received a cordless Logitech keyboard/mouse combo last Christmas. The mouse drains batteries in about 2 weeks; keyboard is fine - it will run for months on a set of batteries. I believe this has got to be abnormal and I wonder whether I should try contacting Logitech and seeking a replacement (I believe it's still under warranty).

The mouse will each up more batteries than the keyboard. Two weeks is pretty decent for battery life of a mouse, methinks. My MX700 will eat up its batteries in a little over 24 hours, if I forget to place it in its cradle.

Does the receiver cradle for that combo recharge the mouse? If not, probably pick up some rechargeable batteries and recharge the batteries in the wall socket after the mouse/keyboard drain them.

To Bateluer:
Well, I seem to recall some people saying in forums that they can go several months with their mouse without changing batteries, but I could be wrong. I'd say my mouse gets used a good bit more than the keyboard so I guess I should expect a shorter battery life with it. And, maybe I have some habits that contribute to this; for one thing, I often move the mouse pointer along text just as a way of pointing at the text while reading it. Still, I think about the longest time I get from a pair of batteries is about 2 1/2 - 3 weeks if I deliberately try to use the mouse less. I really thought that time should be longer.

But, compared to your experience, it seems like my mouse may actually be doing OK. My mouse model is simply the Cordless Click! Plus.

I do use rechargeable batteries.

well, why is cordless popular? because it's easier to work with than corded. so, you say just go out and buy another mouse. yea, that's an option.

I have a Microsoft Wireless mouse and keyboard. I have had it for over a year and only changed the batteries once or twice. I know Logitech could be different, but every two weeks seems extreme unless you are using your mouse all the time.

Thanks for your post. It confirms what I was thinking. I'm sure I've seen other forum threads where people reported battery life similar to yours.

After using a cordless mouse at home, I hate coming to work and using a corded mouse. Cords just get in the way and the more things that can be used without cords - the better

I've never actually drained my MX700's batteries, its always in its cradle at night, so it gets a good 8 hours per day of charge time. Thats assuming I am not working that day. The same batteries have been in the mouse for over a year and a half though.

Quoted for my experience.

Same for me Months of battery life even with extreme usage. I think it has something to do with the way MS mice sleep when they are not actually moving. I love mine, but of course I don't game.

Why? Most people enjoy them! Less clutter. Cords are dead.

All the latest Microsoft mice and keyboards save a lot of battery power.

I have the MS Optical Desktop 2.0. I change my mouse batteries every 4 months, under a lot of daily use. My keyboard hasn't had its batteries replaced for 2 YEARS of lots of use use! I am constantly on the computer! The keyboard still has the Energizer non-rechardgeables that came with them!

I find cordless much easier and convenient. My advice is to get a newer mouse.

2 weeks for changing mouse batteries is shocking to me, even for a heavy user too!

Ah, the folly of wireless devices that are forced to derive their power from batteries in order to become wireless...

Somebody needs to invent a wireless mouse that is powered by kinetic energy so that it charges itself when you move it and doesn't need any batteries.
