Mouse disablement

My old PC runs x32Win10ProV22H2; I find that if I use an adapter to run a USB keyboard from the P/S2 socket (and thus free up a USB socket) it disables the P/S2 mouse. Can I prevent that disablement while using a USB-P/S2 adapter ?

You do realize that PS/2 is NOT hot-pluggable. If you are plugging in your adapter when the PC is ON, and the mouse PS/2 port dies, that is your reason.

SUCCESS - by fitting the adapter when the PC was off, I was able to activate the keyboard from its P/S2 port without disabling the mouse ! THANK YOU.
