Mouse for (very) large monitor

I am recently getting into 4K video editing with drone footage and am using a large TV for a monitor, a 49" Sony XBR49X800D, which is doing a great job at 4K, 60hz 4:4:4 and which I got used for less than $400. I love it.

The very large screen real estate creates some logistical problems, though, with mouse travel. What I want is greater pointer travel for a given amount of mouse travel. I realize this is called "pointer speed" although this is technically a misnomer (something more like "position gain" would make more sense) I have maxed out the setting in my mouse setup menu and still want more.

Do I need a gaming mouse (I am not familiar with gaming)? Is there any way to do what I want?

What type of mouse is it? Logitech software has Acceleration settings for getting the mouse across a big screen, or screens, more quickly.

you need a mouse with more DPI, also called CPI. (DOTS or COUNTS per inch)

it doesn't need to be an expensive gaming mouse; anything with above 800 DPI should do.

mind you, the actual size of the monitor does not matter, what matters is the resolution. if you are on 4k, that means you have twice as much travel as a 1920 monitor. any mouse with 800 DPI should do, depending on how fast you want yours. i'm on 1600 DPI and i have my windows slider set to 1, because anything else is too fast. Also, in graphics design, video editing, etc, having a slower mouse is better, as it's more accurate.

if you are on a 400DPI mouse (which is the standard for the "stock" mice that come from shops like Target and Wallmart, your typical clear plastic box $5 mouse) then maybe yes, you might want to invest into a "gaming" mouse.

in gaming mice, the choice is HUGE. depending on your budget, you might want to go for a multi-button mouse, possibly one designed for the software you are using. otherwise, one with programmable buttons. they all will have multiple DPI settings so it won't matter which one you go for.

Ketchup, it's a Logitech M310 and I tried to find software that would help but what I found didn't do it. DigDog, I will try to find an 800dpi mouse or over, thanks for the advice!

Well it turns out my mouse, the Logitech M310, is already 1000 dpi so I'm not quite sure what to do. Would a 2000 dpi mouse be faster?

Ketchup, I downloaded that Logitech software last night and I guess I was tired because I didn't see the speed adjustment until I just looked at it again after your posting. It worked, it is much faster. Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I use "Gaming" mice for my desktop usage on my 40" 4K UHD TV screens. I think I run around 1600-2000 DPI. (I use different mice for each machine. No reason.)

i edit 4k vids on a 50 inch 4k samsung tv.

this trackball has a switch for changing back and forth from low to high dpi. i leave it on low dpi all the time though so i can go from 1 corner to the other end faster. never needed high precision.
