Duo is back to $29.99. This is why I hate Amazon...sales come and go at the drop of a hat.

Logitech Access Duo Keyboard and Mouse
Sale Price: $14.99

ActuaryTm, fleshconsumed -

Do you really know what referral id / links are ?

Before insulting, check !!!

Reference links are not the links containing "ref" - this "ref" is used by Amazon itself. Just make any search for any item at Amazon - and you will get "ref" in your link !

Reference links are links containing "<alphanumeric_characters>-20" - i.e., fatwallet's id is "fatwallet-20", some other associates use "<numbers>-20".

I hope, you understood.
Do not make the same mistake again and blame people without reason !

Price for Logitech Access Duo Keyboard and Mouse increased from $14.99 to $29.95 - and Duo is not a deal anymore

To remove any possibility of impropriety, is far easier to simply remove the tag (reading back further, you will observe the word tag instead of referral is used) altogether. Amazon associate user IDs can be whatever the associate specifies, and thus it is impossible to precisely know without question. Removing the tag completely is the safest, and most honest method.

There was no blame cast. Personally, I quoted the aforementioned post to make certain users understood why indeed new links were being added. There is obviously no reason to be insulted.

Do you not recall this thread in which the explanation was given (or the fact that I gave it)?

Why you are so sure about "whatever the associate specifies"? Amazon always adds to this "whatever" its "-20" - I trace links from many sites, "-20" is always in referral...

It would be logical to correct fleshconsumed (as you corrected me earlier in abovementioned thread), instead of providing new links and therefore, confirming his blame.

No, correcting the links themselves is the proper way to proceed. Again, no one is blaming anyone here. My personal opinion on the matter would be that those that provide the information should be compensated for it (have stated this a few times, in previous threads); however, I do not decide what is correct and incorrect in the way policy, and thus my personal opinion is absolutely irrelevant.

In consulting the rules, one finds:

"When are negative comments allowed?

If the post contains improper links, such as click-through referrals, etc. If you know a better link for the same deal, post it in the thread."

Again, no blame assigned. Only the original poster and Amazon know for certain if the link with the tag generates a referral or not. Ergo, the above explanation and the resultant removal of the tag entirely.

Hope this clears up any confusion on your part.

ActuaryTm.
I understand your position but next time please do not create illusion of supporting blames.

Just for fun - I guess I found 2 contradictory statements in your post:
1."only the original poster and Amazon know for certain if the link with the tag generates a referral or not"
2. And at the same time you quote Rules:
"If you know a better link for the same deal, post it in the thread"

Therefore, how can you be sure that your link is better?
(And again, there is no uncertainity - "-20" is in all referral links, so my links are not improper)

Best regards,
nj873

It removes all doubt and possibility. If the tag exists (regardless of the ID itself, and whether a -20 is present), the possibility exists. Remove the tag, remove the possibility altogether.

QED. Better. (or perhaps, "more proper" is a bit more accurate?)

FYI: As I believe it bears mentioning not only to this thread but certainly Amazon related threads elsewhere, thought I would provide the following that contradicts the above statement:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00004VX3T/ref%3Dnosim/techbargainscom/102-0140587-0855363

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932111840/ref%3Dnosim/isbnat/103-9579318-2535061

Both are completely random products, but both links are still referrals. Notice the prominent lack of any "-20" in the URL. It can indeed become even more difficult to spot when the associate ID consists solely of digits as opposed to an alpha-numeric string. This should drive home the fact mentioned above several times once more - remove the extraneous portion (anything beyond the product ID) of any URL directed to Amazon or similar sites (Target, Toys R Us, etc), and all possibility of a referral-type link is consequently removed.

STFU please guys, there are now links without the ref thing whether it's bad or not. OP, don't argue and just remove them. Other ppl, don't hijack this thread to be a thread talking about rules.

FYI, the duo is back to $14.xx again!
