Mouse not recognized (sometimes)

Win 7 64
Asus ROG laptop

Mice (USB connect): Microsoft sidewinder x4, Logitech G400. Plus Synaptics touch pad. Playing games, writing docs, etc.
Sometimes the mice work, sometimes they freeze and are not recognized by laptop.Switching USB ports does not help. I found that switching back and forth works...after awhile. In other words, play with Logitech, mouse freeze. Switch to sidewinder, all ok...for awhile, freeze and so forth. After about 10 switches, one or the other mouse will work for the rest of the session (6 hrs or so).
I also noticed sometimes the mouse recognized in the control panel is the opposite mouse I am actually using. So I play with the sidewinder, even though the control panel says logitech and vice versa.
Also, HID compliant mouse is featured in Device manager, along with touch pad.

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Mice do wear out. Maybe time to replace.

I am going to guess, different brand drivers vying for control of the device. Thats why when finally W accepts you are using the logitech mouse and NOT a broken sidewi der, then it keeps working until you end the session.

Probably a driver conflict. Either one or the other mouse will work after I switch them several times...However, I did purchase a new G602 on sale (less than 40.00)...always did wanted to try a wireless mouse anyway.

If you have Setpoint installed, just be aware that, it is considered to be the worst mouse driver/suite ever written.

Why? Anyway, it's in zip form on the download files. What does it do and does the mouse need it to function??? Is it part of Logitech gaming software?

depending on the mouse, you will most likely need setpoint to use all the features of the mouse. specifically, programmable buttons and buttons above mouse3 or mouse5 depending on the cisrcumstances .. honestly i havent used setpoint in years.

setpoint itself is both bloatware (many mouse functions will not work if you only install the drivers, and logitec does not openly offer drivers-only) and has a history of just failing under any and all OS. Also, it is notoriously prone to conflicts, both with other peripherials and, well, EVERYTHING ELSE.

at best, it works but uses an excessive amount of resources for what it does.

i used my g400 and g400s driverless. i did try setpoint around 2014 and it changed the way my mouse behaved ingame in quake .. couldn't get it to match W7 desktop sensitivity (setpoint has its own arbitrary "speed" values) and had to uninstall the razer drivers or it would stall.

So far the new mouse is working fine...no problems. As for Setpoint, I do not see it installed anywhere on my computer. The only reference I can find is in a zip file which I have not opened. Thank you for your input.
