Mouse Recommendation

I'm sick and tired of replacing my mouse every 9 months or so. They certainly get their fair amount of use, but it's not like I'm playing Diablo 2 24/7 so my mice should last longer than they do.

I've been using the intellimouse explorer model for years now, I'm looking for something more durable.

Wired is my preference as well.

I like the Logitech G3 (wired laser mouse) so much I have one for both of my systems. Same with the RatPadz and the Microsoft’s Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000.
I've used that set up on my first system for 2 years and counting...

I recently bought a MX518, but I really prefer my Razer Krait more. I think the Kraits discontinued but man is it a light mouse. The mouseclick is also incredibly sensitive, which I like. It's not too sensitive though, it's not like the weight of my fingers causes it to click at all.

The Mx518 is too heavy and the click is just a bit too tough compared to my Krait. I was thinking about buying a razer diamondback because I really like having two buttons on the side I can move with my mouse.

That's about all I can say.

edit: I just passed by something from Razer while browsing their site, and I think that I don't like the MX518 because I don't palm my mouse. The ergonomic mouse is just not for me heh.

I'm the exact opposite, i have a Razer Copperhead and prefer my Mx518 way more, so it does come down to whether you prefer to "fingertip" or "palm" your mouse i guess.

I prefer heavier mice. I have a Razer Diamondback, Logitech G5 and G500. I never use my Diamondback because it feels way too light. I load my G5 and G500 with the heaviest weights and t feels more comfortable to me. The G500 is a nice mouse, but the G5 woks fine too, I would recommend either.

I like Razer. Weight aside, the Diamondback is a very tough mouse. The DeathAdder is also nice.
I have both right now. Have been using Razer mice for years. They are smooth and responsive, and I never had issues with them.

I've had a G5 forever it seems. It flies with me, I use it for gaming, it's fallen off my desk dozens of times, no problems, the paint is all worn now. I think you can't even see the + and - buttons for the DPI because they've been used so much. It's the most durable mouse I've ever seen. It's probably the best $70 I ever spent on anything computer related.

Out of all of those, The G5, G9, and G500 have been the best. The MX518 was nice (and a great deal considering the price), but feels a bit dated to me these days. The MX1000 is far too heavy and eventually died anyway. The Diamondback didn't fit my "claw" grip well and was uncomfortable for long term use. The G7 was nice, but only one thumb button sucked and swapping battery packs every 2-3 hours wasn't fun. The G9 was pretty nice, but a bit too small for my taste and expensive.

I'd suggest a G500. They're generally not much more expensive than an MX518 (and you get a nicer scroll wheel and some other features), and usually cheaper than the G9 - even the older version of the G9.

Maleficus: what way do you grip your mouse? Claw? Fingertips? Palm?

There's no perfect substitute for actually putting your hand on the mouse and seeing what it's like to hold, but knowing your grip lets you screen out completely unsuitable mice.

I'm a right-handed claw gripper and like symmetric mice. I'm using a Razer Lachesis I bought right when it came out. It's a great mouse, but if I was buying today I'd probably try the newer Abyssus or Salmosa which are cheaper and still have great performance. I'm not 100% satisfied with Lachesis' shape in the hand (more like 90%) but obviously that's a personal issue.

For asymmetric mice I'd look at the Logitech "5" series (MX518, G5, G500, ...), Razer DeathAdder or Razer Imperator.

Check out the Logitech G7 Laser Cordless Mouse. It's wireless but I've had absolutely no problems with its connectivity and performance.

If you want a wired mouse, the G9x is very customizable, and performs well also.

Get a G5 for wired or a G7 for wireless, they are the best shaped mice ever made + Logitech has a 3 year warranty and will just send you a new one if it breaks

i purchased my first G7 when they were first released and they last about 2 years with heavy gaming every time they die i send it back to them and they send me a new one, its great

Well Microsoft has replaced many many mice for me, but i'm just tired of them dying soooooooo often. So while the warranty is awesome and I will most likely end up using it, I would like to avoid the whole process.

Also I have no idea what kind of gripper I am?

I have a Logitech G5 and I've had it since(Goes to look up info on newegg) about 7/8/2006. Works perfectly for me still. :awe:

Maybe a Razer Lachesis then. Others have said the G500/G5 is a good bet.

i am a big fan of the tried and true mx518. the two buttons on the left are fantastic for things such as reload and scoping in.

Yeah i burned through 3 intellimouse 1.0's. Its always the left click button for me :/ always develops the double click problem. I found the MX518 to be a worthly replacement, only thing is getting used to where the forward/backward buttons are on it, but most mice have them on the same side these days anyways.

Took a bit of getting used to since all ive ever used was intellimouse and some varients of it but after 3 days at the slightly below the middle of the bar sensitivity setting i was fine. Great mouse!

get a G9, i couldn't deal with any other logitech's shape, but the claw grip G9 worked for me.

I've been using the Logitech MX400 for years now... the performance is good, but I love it for the shape and the weight. I know there are other models with the same shape, and I would highly recommend them.
