I am waiting, but managed to secure a spot for the next batch with www.tankguys.biz (awesome service BTW :thumbsup: ) I ordered a 146 retail and it came to $220 shipped. Not too bad for server quality silicon, 1MB cache, and the potential to clock very high with reasonable voltage and temperatures. I chose the 146 because of the x10 multiplier. My goal is to run 285 x10 (or more ) on the cpu with a 9/10 divider on the memory, DDR 513 (maybe 1:1 if I'm lucky) on my DFI nF4 Ultra-D. I have some TCC5 ram that runs very well at 2.5-3-3-5-1T @ DDR 504 so I should be pretty well set. If all goes as planned, it should be a bit (or much) better than an SD 3700 and cost $50 less.

I was also looking at the Venice 3200, but the E6 OC looked spotty, as well as the later E3, from what I've been reading. I was really hoping for X2 3800 but I am not a big multitasker and decided to use the $125 difference in cost to support my other habit.....NHL Center Ice hockey , GO AVALANCHE!!!

WARNING: there have been three revision sighted already. The first, CABNE, is the overclocks-like-mad one. The next, CABGE, is pretty bad. The newest one, CABYE, is in between.

These are all fine CPUs, but do not buy a random one expecting it to do very well.

There are both the Socket 940 and Socket 939 versions. You need to watch what you're buying... For a Opteron 144 socket 939 you're looking for part number OSA144BNBOX for boxed and OSA144DAA5BN for OEM. Change the 144 to 146 and up by multiples of two up to 154 for those versions... difference being each step of 2 the clock speed goes up 200MHz so a Opteron 150 runs @ 2.4GHz. But the 144s and 146s are the ones most people are interested in since they will be cheaper

Yessir, 939. I didn't ask for a cherrypicked one, I am not sure if Tankguys would do that or not. Nobody has these as of now except for eWiz and another vendor ??? which only have the 148 ($300) and the 150 ($$$).

The 148's look great too and have identical specs of a 3700 SD, but they are running about $30 more than a SD. However, users are reporting ballistic clocks on these right now. Sure hope they don't neuter the 146 I picked....

144 = x9
146 = x10
148 = x11

You'll want at least a x10 I believe, unless you mb is capable of 330 HTT (or more) with the x9 These puppies rock (so far).....

Right below this thread was the one on silicon wafers, so my tired mind put the two together and they read "Mouth Watering Silicon Wafers." For a second, I was wondering where I could get these tasty treats?

You usually cant until you get the processor. Some of the speciality retailers will specifically tell you what stepping you're getting (and charge you more since if they bother telling you the stepping then its probably a good one that everyone wants )

We've got some comming, but...

Not sure what the steppings will be (won't know 'till I have them in hand and can see them).

We're "sold out" of the 144's (we've got 2 more pre-orders than processors comming in) but we do have 2 or 3 146's that are not spoken for yet. These numbers will fluctuate since we get people cancelling/re-ordering pretty frequently.

We also don't really have a set ETA right now, just depends how quick AMD and the distributors get them out. What you're going to see is likely what we saw for the X2 launch. Big stores will have a few here and there in trickles, so you'll have to be quick/lucky to jump on them. 148's will be most easily available (much less demand) followed by the 146's, and finally the 144's. We're going to try really hard to read all the steppings for all of thse before shipping out, keeping my fingers crossed that we get some CABNE's, but I'm thinking it will be CABGE/CABYE's.

Placed an order for one 146. Deferred the order based on whether you get them with the CABNE stepping. Hope we all have good luck. Such is life as an overclocker... 99% of it is luck. :beer:

CABNE overclock quite well... like 3GHz+ on air. While there really isnt much data about CABGE and CABYE, it is generally understood that CABGE is the worst and CABYE are in the middle. So CABNE > CABYE > CABGE

Way too early to tell though don't you think Doug? There are only a fistful of people with reports. I have seen 2 users with CABYE, both are at 2.95 GHz currently. Myself, well, I'd be very happy with a 2.75 GHz, 1MB cache cpu for $220. Obviously, higher OC would be nice, but I don't think I am going to be terribly disappointed with my 146.

There are too many variables for reliable data at this point, we will surely know alot more about these Opty's over the next couple of months....

CABNE = everyone I've seen with this stepping has been able to get a stable 3ghz and up ~1.45vcore, some with default voltage! Same stepping as the FX57.

CABYE = only seen a couple people with this stepping. Middling so far, ~2.9ghz ~1.65vcore.

CABGE = All the feedback I've seen so far is not as promising, ~2.8ghz ~1.65vcore. Seen one person get 2.9ghz with 1.73vcore. Same stepping as the San Diego. Still, 800-1000mhz overclock is nothing to scoff at if it's with a 144 or 146 opty.

Of course, as more parts start to hit the retail chains and more people report in, the more variation we'll see. We'll Probably see different steppings too.

EDIT: And wouldn't you know as soon as I post that... someone over @ xs forums just posted a screenshot of a CABYE @ 3.063ghz/1.54vcore. :laugh:
