I have a 146 CABYE 0536 GPMW, which doesnt seem like a good stepping from what I see in other forums. I havent been able to test mine cause my Ultra-D mobo has not arrived yet.

Guys please shed some light in this aspect.

I've seen plenty of people get to 3ghz with the 0536. It's just more hit-or-miss than w/CABNE. Also, you need more vcore to get there w/CABYE, and I don't mean mega vcore, more like around ~1.6v. You need really good cooling too.

The CABNE is so popular because everyone seems to be able to hit 3ghz and up with near default vcore, which is always attractive.

I'd wait and test that little puppy in your Ultra-D before coming to any conclusions.

So are the 144 the exact same chipset just at a lower default speed? 1.8 Ghz instead of the 2.0 Ghz by the 146? Are there any other differences? Have people been able to OC the 144's as well as the 146? I assume this is similar to the 2400-2600+ Mobile Bartons? Thanks.

Do you need registered RAM and all the other BS that usually goes along with opteron or not?

The 144's have 9X multipliers while the 146 have 10X multipliers - correct? That is one thing to consider I guess. Have to have a system that can handle a higher HTT

Per Martin earlier in the thread:

Slight correction: Socket 940 enforced registered RAM, not ECC RAM.

All AMD64 CPUs socket 754, 939 or 940 support ECC and non-ECC RAM. Most 754 and 939 mainboards do not allow you to make use of the ECC, though. "

Nice job on the updates Doug

You may want to add the retail 146 from Tankguys for $160 and the OEM 148 from Monarch for $221...

Holy crap that was a nice price drop they put on the 148 . . . from $290 OEM to $221. Glad I held myself back from snagging one at the old price.

OOS now though.

Edit: Fixed Typo

I would not get the Asrock mobo. I have one of those. Highest vcore you can get without vcore mod is 1.45v thats with OCWbeta 2 bios. Mobo is very unstable. My 6800 had a hell of a time working on that mobo. Had problems with with fx5500. highest vdimm can be set to 2.8v if i am not wrong (without vdimm mod).

I would get the Dfi Ultra-D. Well worth the money.
