I hope so on motherboard.. I think any 939 board will work but I've only seen DFI work. All it takes is for them to release a bios with updated UPN code to recognise 939 opteron. Your ram will work in any AMD DDR 462/754/939 setup.

Yep any mobo should work. I went with the Msi Neo2-F and it recognized the Opty and ran fine!!

ZZF seems to be the only ones in stock with the 144s, and they are way overpriced. I've got a pre-order at Tankguyz who said they will try to send me out a CABYE this Monday-ish, so our 144 preorders should be shipping then

BTW, Tankguys, you rock.

What about this one? ASRock - its cheap!

Im not quite ready to upgrade my AGP vidcard.

I would not get the Asrock mobo. I have one of those. Highest vcore you can get without vcore mod is 1.45v thats with OCWbeta 2 bios. Mobo is very unstable. My 6800 had a hell of a time working on that mobo. Had problems with with fx5500. highest vdimm can be set to 2.8v if i am not wrong (without vdimm mod).

I would get the Dfi Ultra-D. Well worth the money.

Thanks for the suggestion but I need a good OC'ing 939 mobo with AGP - not ready to upgrade my 6800 yet. Any other good 939's with AGP?

Did Tankguys say what they were? 144 or 146?

I saw only a couple guys with a CAB2E so far and they didn't fair too well. IIRC, anything over 2.7ghz was giving them trouble. We really need more feedback before drawing any conclusions on them.

EDIT: That's really to bad, because CAB2E is a FX57 stepping like the CABNE. But like I said, we need more feed back.

Really, CAB2E is the same core that some of the FX-57s have. Can you please links to those results? If its againsts anandtech rule, can you please pm me the links. I will appreciate it. A lot of google search did not return any result.

He said 144s here.

I have a 146 CABYE 0536 still in the box just waiting for me to get my stuff together but the people selling these things on eBay for $300+ is tempting me to sell it since people with 0540s seem to be getting pretty good results.

Hey all-

They were 10 144's, all CAB2E as mentioned. We've got 4 146's comming in the next day or so to fill a few pre-orders, not sure on any more 146's either. I have more 144's showing up Monday as well, 7 of which are not spoken for, but I do not know what steppings they will be. I'm *guessing* CAB2Es as well since they shipped at roughly the same time as the other 10, but I won't know for sure until we have them.

from dfi-street's guide to opterons:

Steppings: The list below is a general guide to the strength of steppings,:

1. CABNE 05xx, xx<40
2. CABYE 0540
3, CABNE 0540/CABYE 05xx, xx != 40
4. CABGE

Higher numbers on this list are more likely to reach 3GHz, lower ones less likely. CAB2E's have begun to surface, but it is too soon to say exactly where they lie in the above scheme. Preliminary indications are that they are worse than 2. and better than 4. More results will yield more precision.

So anybody got a 146 from Monarch's latest stock? I know, $199 is a high price, but if they're CABYE 0540, it might be worth it. Why? Because all indications are the 0540 may be as good if not better than a CABNE. And I've heard inside info that they are CABYE stepping.

I ordered my 146 monday from monarch (retail box) when it was priced at $181+shipping. It arrived today, CABYE 0540FPBW. So far I am doing 300x10 @ 1.52v with my G.Skill PC4400 LE 2x512MB TCCD sticks 1:1 1T. So to confirm, it appears they are CABYE 0540 stepping they are pushing out there. And it seems they do well.

Same here. Got my 146 from Monarch today with exact version as you. 3Ghz would be sweet. Will spend the weekend pushing it.

I also got two 144's from two more different sources. Both were CAB2E 0540FPMW. Apparently the are good but not great. Reports of 2.8 on air, but little better even on water. They go for resale.

I have a 146 CABYE 0536 GPMW, which doesnt seem like a good stepping from what I see in other forums. I havent been able to test mine cause my Ultra-D mobo has not arrived yet.

Guys please shed some light in this aspect.

Ok some results from my Opty 146 0536 GPMW - got to 2.5Ghz on stock voltage prime95 stable for 20 mins. Started upping the voltage, reached 2855 Mhz on 1.55V(limit on my evga SLI mobo) prime95 stable for 20 mins(i know I can't claim its entirely stable). Surprisingly my TR Si-120 cooler is working awesome. IDLE temp is 21C and load is around 42C on Prime95. I know the evga mobo has some issues with showing wrong temp, 21C is way to low I think. I will have to wait for the ultra-D to show up before I can verify whether their new bios fixes the temp issue.
