Moved components to new case, and now won't boot?

Hello,

I'm in dire need of some help. I bought a new case for my computer, I then disassembled it, and then moved all the components to the new case.

I put everything back exactly the way that it was before. Upon powering it on, everything gets power, the hard drive spins, the motherboard led lights up, and the dvd spins, all the case fans spin.

Nothing else happens, the bios does not load, and the monitor displays nothing. I disassembled the computer and put it back together again, and still nothing happens.

Any ideas? I'm at a complete loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance!!!

Make sure ram is seated completely properly, processor is properly seated, no bent pins (although i dont think you would have removed the proc in moving the comp).

In essence make sure everything is completely seated securely. also make sure the hard drives are in the correct order. That happenned to me once was in a rush and had the cables backwards for master/slave. drove myself insane trying to figure it out

Put ram in and out three times, definitely seated well. Didnt' mess with the processor atall, I just left it attached and moved the board with it on. Only using one hard drive, and its set to Master, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Also reseat the graphics card..and...do a cmos reset. Recheck "all" IDE cables for corrent pin 1 correlation...dont overlook the small things...there the ones that usually bite you.

Ok, took everything out, used different IDE cables, reset the cmos, and checked that all connections were tight, all IDE cables have correct pin 1 correlation, and still:

Computer powers on, but nothing happens, bios doesn't load - I get nothing. I tried a spare PS, same thing happens, spare RAM, same thing happens.

What next?
Much appreciated!

Ok, so I've got some more information that may better allow help.

I've tried 2 PCI-E graffics cards which I'm able to work in another system, so its not that

I've tried and verified the RAM in another system.

I've tried and verified two Power supplies in another system

Ive tried and verified the hard drive in a another system.

All of the above components work perfectly.

I'm not currently hooking up an optical drive, so that isn't in the formula either.

So that basically leaves the Mobo, or the CPU, or the case?, I haven't touched the CPU, so that isn't likely.

When I power the system on, by pressing the power button on the case, everything gets power, the mobo has a led that lights up, the case has a green LED and red LED that stay lit. (one is the power button, green I think, but I'm not sure why the red LED is staying lit (h.d.d activity light probably)

Perhaps of importance? I can't reset or turn off the computer by pressing the power button a second time, I'm forced to turn off the power supply to cut the power. Is this significant? I've checked the connections from the case to the system panel connector multiple times, and I"m positive they are all connected correctly.

Does this help at all?

Thanks again for looking, I really appreciate your help!

Hmm. Assuming you properly reset the CMOS, which you might want to try again just for kicks... I'm pretty stumped.

The only think I can recommend is to make sure that the motherboard isn't shorting out somewhere on the motherboard mounting tray or some other part of the case.

I have had quirky motherboards in the past that refuse to POST. If you are not hearing any beeps and your system isn't POSTing, and you have verified every other component, which it looks like you have - you might want to simply tear it down and rebuild it.

Try a barebones boot to see if you can post - ie. video card, CPU and ram only. You can even do this without the case if so inclined. If it still doesn't POST then you could be looking at a motherboard issue.

Best of luck.

Ok, this is helpful.

I was wondering about the "bare bones" idea that you described.

Ok I just did it, and it didn't POST. So I have a Motherboard issue, assuming its out of warranty, what is the next move, ie is there any hope of finding the problem, or are these situations where its better just to bite the bullet and buy a new Mobo?

Thanks

You haven't said what mobo you're using. Just curious--is it an Asus? I know that problem is fairly common to the P4P800E Deluxe board. Some think it's a BIOS problem, but I think something on the board shorts out. I had it happen twice, and have found others with the same problem through Google. Anyway, the third time I had the problem, no matter what I tried, the mobo wouldn't come back, so I switched to an Abit IS7 I had lying around.

The Mobo is ASUS

its the A8N-SLI Deluxe

You said it happened 3 times, does that mean that you were able to fix it somehow on the first two?

Thanks

Here's the story- I turned on the computer one morning , and it acted exactly as you described in your initial post. I shut it down and carried it to another room where I had room to open it up. Turned it on and it booted fine. Carried it back to the workplace, no boot. Opened it and checked all cables, memory, cards, etc and all were secure. Turned on and it booted fine. About 3 months later I had the same problem and messed with it the same way, and after 3 or 4 tries it booted up and was fine for another few months. The last time it happened, I carried it over to a work table, plugged it in and it booted. I carried it back to the desk, and no boot. I messed with the cables, ram, etc for several hours but couldn't get it to boot again. Got tired of it and changed only the mobo. Used the same CPU. Ran a repair install to get XP to work on the new mobo. One strange thing that occurred in both the instances where it finally booted was that my firewall (Sygate) was reset to it's default. Can't understand that. I think there is a bad solder joint somewhere on the board but couldn't find anything on the board that looked bad. I found at least 3 posts on different forums when I searched Google, and several of them said it was a BIOS problem that Asus won't try to fix. At least in my case I disagree, but the Sygate change confuses me. I've still got the board, and just recently found out there's a 3 year warranty- I thought it was 1 year. I'll try to RMA it when I get a chance. Sorry this is so long.

Sounds like you had a similar experience. I'll probably try to get an RMA as well. Is that from the retailer or from the manufacturer? IE who do I contact for the warranty?

At least I can stop fiddling with the d$%n thing.

thanks for your help
