Movies that are total hyped crap that everyone raved about:

Juno - Not funny. I don't know why critics were crazy over this. They also shoved 'teen pregnancy is ok, just get them adopted!' down your throat.

Precious- What the fuck is this shit? Yes, it is a decent drama. But it didn't deserve all that talk and awards. That whale main actress didn't do any GROUNDBREAKING acts. She just acted herself.

True Grit- Why? An uneventful storyline... they go look for the killer, finds him by accident, then Bridges carry her all the way back. Okay? Not heartwarming, funny, witty, nor dramatic

Juno--wasn't total crap. I didn't think it was great, though.

Precious--well, I tend to dislike most films that Oprah tries to whore out, and I'm not generally down for a film that flat out pounds hate and discomfort into my face.

True Grit--really? wtfman.

Napoleon Dynamite. Holy hell did that movie ever blow goats. How it got so popular is beyond me.

You're one of those. I loved it, and I still do. I love it even more each time I see it.

Even the Wikipedia page for that movie notes that it's extremely polarizing and impossible for Netflix to determine (by algorithm) who will enjoy the recommendation.

Hurt Locker- The idiot critics talked about how 'realistic' portrayal it was for real bombsquad. They also loved the artistic anticlimatic ending. Fucking eh, I do appreciate movies that are subtle, but I cannot stand this trend of anticlimatic for the sake crap.

ND is an interesting case; people were split up.. half liked the movie.. the other half totally hated it. As for me.. I really liked it.

True Grit 2010 is GREAT!

I watched it in theaters, and about 5 times now since the Blu-Ray release (opportunities just keep coming up again and again). I still think it's the best new movie I've seen in a LONG time.

John Wayne version or Jeff Bridges version? or both?

Gran Torino.

The movie could have just been Clint Eastwood stroking his own cock for 2 hours and it would've given across the same message.

Truth!

Lies!

District 9 was crap yea. Because I could not get the movie's tone. First they had this serious opening with social commentary in the documentary style.

Then it went to total cartoon crap. Vikas and one alien infiltrate the whole company to retrieve the mothership gas?

Why did the aliens take 30 years to collect the stupid gas? AND they put ZERO explanation as to HOW that stupid gas arbitrarily turn Vikas into an alien.

Looking back, it's just trash.

well, I just found one way to fix that algorithm is to notice that frank distaste for District 9 = unabashed love for Napoleon Dynamite...for some reason. :hmm:

oh wait, zeze breaks that again. he makes no sense anyway.

The Hurt Locker is amazing. the ending is perfect, b/c that is what the film is about.

No one should have to apologize for the stupidity of the viewer.

Up! Blech; and that goes for most Pixar nonsense. I do not understand why everyone soils their panties as soon as a new Pixar film comes out.

I did like Wall-E, particularly the first half.

I very much enjoyed Napoleon Dynamite, District 9, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Wall-E, and Iron Man 1.

Disliked the first Kill Bill enough to not watch the second installment.

Didn't see Juno, Gran Torino, True Grit, Precious, Hurt Locker, Up, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, or Iron Man 2, so have no opinion.

District 9 was shitty because of the plot holes and the preachiness. Not to mention the unbelievability; I mean it's unbelievable enough that aliens might actually visit us...but that we enslave them too? Only Bay...only him.

I got another one. Sexy Beast. Seems like everyone raves about this film. Halfway through I began to wonder if I was watching the same version that received such high praise.

On the flipside, I totally, 100% enjoyed The Core. It's such a guilty pleasure of mine. Probably because the movie doesn't take itself so seriously. The biggest flaws with ID4 and 2012 were how serious they tried to make it, but even then I can stand ID4 more than 2012, maybe because of nostalgia.

The new True Grit was pretty awesome and I can't imagine John Wayne's version being any better and is likely far worse. I really liked District 9 and The Hurt Locker; I imagine Juno is pretty anjoying now, but when I saw it in the theatre pre-hype, I thought it was pretty funny. /shrug
