so what you're saying, that all oscars winners are over hype movies?

No, but a lot of them are. "Best Picture" awards rarely go to the best picture, they go to the one that the critics identify as being marketable for the "Best Picture".

Watchmen.

They tried so hard to make the plot exactly like the movie, but they still had to cut pieces and they totally changed the ending. They also did a few things that were totally gratuitous and were probably put in just to make 7-14 y/os say "that was cool, mom!" Their authenticity rang hollow, they tried to fix it by adding childish stuff, and overall it was just meh.

The Piano. D:
Kill Bill and Inglorious Basterds.

I think people were in love with Quentin after Resoviour Dogs and Pulp Fiction, and they would suck his dick regardless of any shitty movies after that.
Pretty much this, though I think that both of those films are overrated, too.

Gladiator was awesome. Not liking it, does not compute.

The original Star Wars movies. I liked them when I was 10 but watching again they were terrible.

they often do go to the best picture, and those that are nominated generally are deserving.

I'm sorry that your Michael Bay movies are, in reality, utter shit and deserve no recognition.

Hurt Locker. If it wasn't hyped up to be realistic, I would have loved it.
The problem is film critics think the flyover at the Giants game is military experience.

then why do you listen to film critics opinions of what they think is realistic?

honestly, for a bunch of yahoos that claim they have free will, one should very well be able to:

--distinguish qualities of realism on their own.
--appreciate something for it's own merits, and not whether it rejects or agrees with reviews that claim something about it.

plus, I think the criticism regarding realism in the Hurt Locker regards military protocol and the actions that a bomb squad might take...well, so the mother-f what? the "realism" claims in Hurt Locker, to me, involves it's ability to drag you into those moments. the tension is so thick that you feel like you are sitting right there in these situations.

like I give a flipping fuck if a bomb squad is ever going to be running around with sniper rifles in a real military situation. it's drama. it's a movie--that is not a valid critique.

you, sire, are bastard in a basket #2.

CoM is the best sci fi film since 2001. easily. bam!

It was pointless.

No justification for the fighting. No justification for why the baby was in danger. No explanation for how the baby would be safe elsewhere. No explanation for how a single baby was actually meaningful in the big picture.

It was a journey from nowhere to nowhere. I was rooting for mother and child to die so the damned thing would end.

Barton Fink. I watched it 3 times over as many years. I was unable to enjoy it on any level.

Then explain. How do humans operate like that? How do you get from here to there?

You don't.

Here, this guy gets it:

Gorgon Zola from Belgium said:
Children of Men has an absurd premise. In stead of depicting a world where human fertility has dropped significantly resulting in chaos, we are to swallow that 'over night' women stopped giving birth period (did the aliens from Worlds finally get it right this time?) and that the only country which can deal with this is Great Britain partially due to the introduction of a nazi-like regime. Why the rest of the world failed to do so is never explained just like everything else which is thought up as the storyline progressed.

The story which is served is equally as absurd as the premise. In a nutshell we are to believe that the birth of a single baby doesn't sound the dawn of a new age but in stead will lead to scientists implementing what 'naturally' happened to this horribly acted Kee on a global scale? This to further the idea that despite the self-destructive nature of humans we are still in control of our fate? Or the proof of the existence of God since it wouldn't be possible for ordinary people to stroll through a warzone with a freshly born child being shot at with endless rounds of amo and survive? Again, this is not explained in the movie, narratives were absent much like any memorable acting, the cameo of Caine aside.

The baby being born into the childless world has no real enemies, only the opposite. Yet it is being hauled through a warzone on a tip by a stoned and aging hippie whose purpose in life is to have his fart-finger pulled, in order to reach a certain group of people who's intentions remain completely vague throughout the entire film? Sigh, how utterly stupid. In 2027 there are only two boats left? One in a warzone and one owned by the 'Human project'? Sounds more like a video game to me, hardly like the story of top-rated movie.

No plot development, no character depth, serious low-budget-feel cinematography and a script without any poignancy. Nothing in this movie that would make it worthy of its high ranking. Totally out of place action-shooter war-scenes and the cheap Hollywood appeal on the senses which initially seemed to be left out, magically appears (alongside the terrorist cell) during the urban shoot-out and henceforth during the so called ending of this movie. The boat being called 'The Tomorrow' came straight out of the Shallowwood textbook and made me bite my teeth till they finally broke off one by one.

The poorly developed chase story which CoM basically is, is just too one-dimensional and frankly just straight out flimsy and it got boring fast. And it is so filled with implausibilities that even the greatest mathematicians of our present world will not be able to count them all.
