Donnie Darko and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Both great premise, terrible execution. Thousand of ground-breaking ideas have come and gone all because the person that had them couldn't make them accessible.

totally forgot about this movie. this movie was terrible. some of the worst acting i've ever seen in hollywood, clint included.

also makes me put million dollar baby on the list. eastwood is just terrible as a director, and an actor. he sucks.

not sure if serious.

I have heard the Danish subtitled versions were much better. Anyone watch them?

I fell asleep trying to watch Danish Dragon Tattoo late at night. I don't know anything about these stories. From what a remember--too much forced drama/action. but it was probably just too late.

I am probably in the minority, but I thought Thin Red Line was better than Saving Private Ryan, not to take anything away from that film however. I just found TRL more engrossing.

The Thin Red Line makes me, umm, well...that's inappropriate to discuss

Whoa whoa, who's talking shit abuot Amadeus? Them's fighting words.

I forgot to mention Saving Private Ryan; give me The Thin Red Line any day of the week. SPR was decent, but in my opinion it's not the amazing movie it's made out to be.

KT

Holy shit, tTRL was HORRIBLE. That and Titanic are literally the ONLY movies I fell asleep in the theater, I shit you not. A thin red line was the most boring, dull shitfest of a war movie ever.

Avatar. What a fucking awful peice of shit movie.

Every fanboy that jizzed on themselves over the "greatness" of this movie needs to have their diseased brain removed. It really was sickening.

I don't know anyone who said it's a great movie. Special FX hell yes they're awesome and I bought the Blu-ray because the FX are awesome and a benchmark to show off a tv.

I assume that by that, you mean the greatest war film ever created?

Are you one of those dudes in that image that NS1 posted about people complaining to that one theater and demanding a refund after watching the Tree of Life?

in your defense, though, it would behoove you to investigate more behind certain films before risking your cash. Terrance Malick is not for the easily amused.

Here's the thing, your opinion of movies holds just as much weight as mine.

That movie was horrible. All I remember about that movie was some stupid hill they need to over take for tactical reasons, which took like 2 hrs to do, they took it, then the movie went on for like hour, they made it seem like taking that hill was now completely unimportant then just ended the movie. Granted I was taking 10-15min naps in there but still. If I have trouble sleeping I suppose I could try to watch it again.

Lord of The Rings.
Tron Legacy
Pulp fiction
Anything by Will Ferrel

Usually I like a movie for what it is or trying to convey. I don't follow specific genre's either. To give some examples with more controversial movies discussed thus far in this film.

For example I loved True Grit not for the basic plot line. I loved it for the character development, the predicaments of each character, and their reactions. That movie was pure character development and still had a well conveyed plot even if it was simple.

I like CoM for some of the same reasons although it does invoke a more emotional tone in regards to humans as a whole as well.

I do not like movies that try to appease through shock value or going over the top just to do so. This is why I dislike so many Will Ferrel movies (although I liked Megamind) because it just seems that he is doing anything possible for the shock value to get a laugh. To me that just isn't funny. I've never been a fan of pure slapstick comedy. This is also why I didn't like watchmen either. There was very little plot development, character development, or anything of redeeming value at all to it. There were a couple of moments here and there that I sort of liked, but overall it was a below average flick in my opinion.

My heart rate steadily increased for the first 40 minutes or so as the ships were approaching the beach head until they reached the first hill. One of the best build ups for the beginning of a movie that I can remember. But I have a knack for putting myself in the shoes of that 19 year old private or 25 year old Sargent when it comes to war movies. They always make me ask: "How would I have handled this situation?"

There is probably no better way to get to know yourself in a short time than war unfortunately.

However, to each is own, that's what is great about movies. I don't hate on others for not liking what I like.

I will admit that was out when I was in college and my opinion may change if I were to actually re-watch it today, however my first viewing of left with such a bad feel I don't know if I could ever do this.

I don't hate Zin, I bet we probably have an over lap of movies we both like, we just disagree on this.

Zin has good taste, but I think his hate for cartoons as a whole is my main issue. Oh.. I think you both get along pretty well.. because you both have the exact same preferences.. AFAIK.

well, like I said, TM is not for the faint of heart. well, not that any of his films are disturbing, it's just you have to go in expecting excessive narration and highly cerebral content.

it is not a typical war movie, and it is more similar to the 70s style "war is evil" theme In Hollywood, than the contemporary style of "War is a patriotic act" --as shown with SPR.

that in itself put a lot fo people off. again, TM is very devisive. People either hate his stuff because they mosey in having no idea what they are about to see, or gush because there is simply no one like him. personally, I love his style. The narratives, images, and overall pacing and story arch in TRL are some of my favorite moments in all of cinema.

And honestly, I went in to the theater not knowing what to expect when it was released...I think it was midnight, actually...and I was glued to the screen.

Some of his other flicks--heaven's Gate and The New World have indeed put me to sleep. Doesn't mean I don't like them... Hell, my favorite movie ever--8 1/2, put me to sleep about 3x before I could get through it completely.

How about that mediocre movie about the guy who is addicted to war diffusing bombs in iraq/afghanistan?

So over hyped that I honestly can't remember the name. Can't believe it won awards either... it was at best a 7/10 movie.
