Outbreak (Dustin Hoffman and a slew of stars. Good flick. Currently on Netflix).

BTW, when you pull up FLU on Prime, you'll also see a slew of other plague stuff that's worth watching.

I watched Outbreak about 10 days ago. Contagion is in my library's hold list for me but they shut down today for the forseeable future, so who knows. I have 12 Monkeys from the library now, can watch it any time. Saw Soilent Green a few years ago. I'm sure there are others. 10 days ago when I watched Outbreak I did it to get the gestalt of what a pandemic might be like here in the modern world. However right now, what we are seeing seems just as provocative as any science fiction movie could be. We've come that far in just these last 10 days.

I checked that out of the library a few weeks ago, started reading and realized immediately that Crichton used a very unnecessary trick, being making the pathogen from outer space. As we see now, it can pop up right here on earth, no dumb extraterrestrial bullshit necessary. I returned it to the library unread. I did read Jurassic Park. That seemed reasonable science fiction. And, of course, the movie was great.

Edit: Didn't know there were so many apocalyptic movies. Guess I should have known.

No. Crichton writes big, interesting stories that he never quite knows how to end. So usually his stories keep you riveted right up until the end and then *poof* he lets you down. Andromeda Strain and Sphere are the two biggest offenders. Really good for a long time, but don't expect any insight.
