Moving from Radeon 9800 Pro to X800 Pro

I'm thinking about replacing my hard working but aging Radeon 9800 Pro with an X800 Pro. I've got the Catalyst 5.3 drivers installed at present. Can I simply swap boards and have it properly recognized, or should I go through the driver de-install/re-install process?

Just to be safe when your about to take out 9800 before turn off -use driver cleaner and clear the drivers

install your new card and reinstall drivers

You should always remove drivers before pulling a peice of hardware. As for Driver Cleaner, it is great for if you get your system borked by swaping out cards without uninstalling old drivers and the like, but it isn't necassary if you folow proper procedure.

You dont need to at all. ATI's drivers are unified. If you turn your pc off, then put the x800 pro in, it will boot up and say something like x800 pro detected blah blah blah and it will be ready. You likely wont even have to restart.

You don't need to, but I would recommend it. I pulled my GeForce 4 Ti 4800 and put my 6800GT in, and it detected it without a problem, and was performing well. I then uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled the newest drivers, and it worked a bit better for me. I don't know if it would be the same for ATi, but it wouldn't hurt to take the extra 5 minutes to do it the safer way.
