Single guy need to live downtown

I lived downtown for a year at the Boston Lofts...$845/mo but you need to find a parking spot if you have a car ($150/mo). Gets pricey quick but it's tons of fun. The apartment was literally across the road from work so I could wake up at 8:45 to get to work at 9, then go home and nap for lunch Tons of college kids live there so it gets kinda noisy on weekends tho.

What kinda budget and atmosphere you looking for? Where abouts will you be working?

Denver's a pretty expensive city to live in -- that way across the entire Front Range. You'd be hard pressed to find something decent for $600/month. If you can find out where you will need to work it'll be easier to give you some idea of where to start looking for housing.

I live north of denver. Last year i saw a chart in the Denver Post on the average prices of apt's and houses based on sq footage.

To get something nice and not in the ghetto in the City of Denver you will be looking at around 900 a month for a 1 bedroom apt.

you will proably want to find something in one of the burbs like Aurora, Lakewood, Centenial, Arvada, Westminister, Wheatridge, Brighton, highlands ranch.

Denver isnt that big, its the burbs that make it look big. no matter where you live you can get from one side of the city to the other pretty quickly.

congrats on your new job.

what mass transit systems are in place for people commuting from the burbs to downtown?

i'm moving from seattle wa. if anyone's been to seattle and denver. what are the similarities and differences?

the move to denver is for 6 months while i go through training. after the training i will probably be moved back home or to another location on the west coast. so i'm hoping for a place that can accomodate a short lease.

You're in for a rude surprise if you're looking for mass transit in Denver. There's light rail and bus service, but I don't have experience with either one. Most people have personal automobiles and drive to and from where they need to go.

Well you're north of the tech center, which is where a lot of the tech businesses are. I'd look for an apartment in Englewood, maybe. I know there are some apartment complexes on university boulevard -- and it looks like you might be decently close to University of Denver. I'm not that familiar with that part of Denver.

A friend of mine lives in some apartments off 38th and Depew. She's paying around $425/month for a 1-bedroom, as I recall. The owner wanted more but she negotiated him down.

To be honest, the decor is kind of hideous (shag carpet, very 70s). But it doesn't take long to get to downtown, it's not a bad neighborhood, and parking is simple. PM me for more details.

hrmm...isn't that more like Glendale area? Tech Center is a little far. It shouldn't be too hard to find some apartments around there.

The transit basically goes North/South (it follows Santa Fe Ave) so it's somewhat far from where you are. There's tons of buses that go around that area (Colorado Blvd). Since you're outside of downtown, parking is probably free where you work.

I live out near Cherry Creek Mall (which is about 10 minutes drive from where you're going to work). I pay $855/mo for a 1 bed apt which includes a parking spot. Not bad considering the area the neighbourhood. The place I'm in is called The Seasons if you want to check it out. There's a bunch of apartments out in that area. Check out the WestWord classifieds and you'll see tons of affordable places all over the place.

Denver isn't that big...you can make it from downtown to the city limits in about 45 mins with no traffic (i.e. Parker) Nothing like Seattle in terms of traffic or city size.

PM me if you're interested in some more info...

Your place of work is on Colorado blvd and near I-25. not bad. A place downtown will cost at minimum 750$ with a spot (The Metro has some around that price, behind Coors Field, near I-25). There are a few place in the Tech Center around I25 and Belleview and I225 and Yosemite that are advertising 500$ or so dollars a month and they are decent, but I would expect at least around 650$ for a place. Either place is about 10-15 minutes from Cigna. You could find something in the Glendale area but some are really ghetto and it should cost around 450$ a month for a single bedroom.

Downtown is a nice place to live, especially for young people.

yeah...I'm sure there is. I went to one a few years ago...it some somewhere around the Littleton area...it was an outdoor place, and I think there's an indoor paintball field somewhere near downtown also. I'll Google it when I get home and see if I can find it.

Not really sure...I rent so I don't really know what the real estate market is like.

I guess Denver's considered a pretty expensive place to live. A "nostalgic" home in Wash Park area (kind of the higher end) is probably around $300-$400k (and this is for a 100 year old house). It's close to downtown (about 10 mins away) and it's a nice neighbourhood, which is what you're paying for.

If you're looking in the suburbs, Parker is a pretty popular place these days. My friend just bought a 4bed house (2000+sq ft) in Parker for about $220k. Parker is about an hour from downtown and is much more "suburbia-like" if that's what you're into.

As for rentals, apartments that are 1bedroom near downtown (within 20 mins drive) are going to run at least $800/mo for a decent place.
