IT is hard as hell here, most the jobs are in DTC (Denver Tech Center) to the south of Denver.

IMO best way to get into jobs here is by contracting in. Robert Half Technology is one of the bigger names we always get calls from for placement.

Most IT jobs are in the Tech Center. Luckily for you the light rail station next to the school is a straight shot to DTC.

Excellent news about the light rail station. What makes IT jobs in Denver so difficult...are they just few and far between?

Agreed. DTC is one of the first places to look. In Westminister, there's a few big tech firms. I think IBM is out there, as is Storagetek, McKesson and probably a few others. However, no light rail for you if you head out to Westminister. DTC is right off the new light rail line so you can commute that way if you want to work in DTC.

The company I work for is in Downtown Denver. What kind of IT work are you looking for? Would you consider dipping into a little telecom/IT support roles? Our company also gets most of our people through recruiting companies. I'm not sure if we're hiring IT guys at the moment, but we're in a shortage of Project Managers if that's something that tickles yer fancy.

I'm looking for web development work. I've got 2 years out of undergrad working with .NET technologies as a consultant, with some microsoft certifications and a security clearance (that would be great to take advantage of if possible). I also do freelance development / consulting / IT support. If any of those buzz words catch anyone's attention, please let me know!

Thanks~

i drove to colorado springs today. gorgeous place with rolling hills and table-top mesas... also saw 6 fighter jets (f18??) flying practice(?) around the AFA ...spectacular. that place is a cyclists paradise and seems like a great place to raise a family, however, not the best for young people.

people would also say new york, chicago, berlin are nasty, dirty, overpopulated, and polluted... so its all a matter of opinion (and lifestyle)

Colorado Springs is a big military town. It'll make use of your security clearance if you want to work for the government.

I worked as a programmer in Denver for a year at a great company. I seen you want web development, what about application development? Give me a PM and I will give you a company name to look up. I know they take interns and everything, and to be honest, the best place I've ever worked in my life. The only reason I left is because I hated Denver and moved back to my home state.

I don't think they do much on the web side tho.

i live in the Reunion Area (104th and Tower) and work in IT.

Arrow is a good company ( i work there now) but their IT department is pretty 'full' right now.

As many people have said, the DTC area is where most of the tech firms are... if yer not picky.. try Comcast.... at least ya get free Cable TV...

otherwise, try DICE.... the local zip code for most IT companies down there is 80112

Yeah right Colorado springs is a nasty place, there's been like 18 homicides already.

And it's not Denver University it's The University of Denver.

What is your girlfriend going for there? Just wait until you see the campus, it will make you happy that you live close by. Aside from there being everything you need within walking distance. Not that you yourself are going, but you'll get some sort of pride having your GF go to a place that uses gold to "Accent" their buildings.

As far as jobs, just head over to a recruiting agency, unless you wish to apply directly.

yea coloroado springs does have a serious crime problem with a city of its size... but it its a military town, you got the AFA, Fort Carson, Shivers AFB. NORAD, Peterson AFB...

its university of Denver or DU so that is were he is getting Denver University

just like CU is university of Colorado, and not UC

hehe well my diploma says University of Denver. And CU would be different if California didn't already have UC copywritten.

But I can see where it would be confusing, although it just sounds ridiculous the other way around.

Thanks everyone for the posts thus far. My girlfriend and I are learning from them and preparing for our trip to Denver next week for an apartment (and job). Thanks again.
