Hey guys

I have a couple interviews lined up in San Diego in the upcoming months and was wondering if you guys could give me some tips on where to live- I was thinking Point Loma or North County?

Where to go to eat and what to see- I will be there for about 2 months and am looking forward to it!

I also like to go to bars *Im 24* so if any of you know where there are good places to go out as well- it would be much appreciated-

Thanks so much

Richard

Downtown!! Haha, if you can handle that *gangster* environment.

Seriously though, 600-700 a month for a studio. Bars are what, down the block? Yes indeed!

I'll be heading there if I get a job within San Diego when I graduate. Enjoy your better years there, then move to the suburbs.

Nah, that's not downtown. I'm talking 10th avenue, something like that.

Definitely check out the buildings of course, but those are all walking distance to the bars, the stadium, anything you need.

Some of those are old hotels and they've turned into studios, so check up on plumbing and all that. For a college student, that wouldn't be all that bad, but since you have a full time job, you could probably pay a little closer to 700 for something nice. There are some towers right across from the stadium that were just built; I'll try and find an ad for it, but they are nice as hell. Little more in price though.

Where will you be working? I'd want to be close to work so that would influence the choice of where to live. Traffic sucks around here. I live and work in North County.

Pacific Beach is full of fun bars and night life.
Anywhere along the coast is great IMO.
Hillcrest is the gay area...that may or may not be your thing.

Hopefully I will be close to San Diego but there is a chance I will be working inCarlsbad-

I hear its not too bad and that La Jolla is also nice but a bit too burby-

Any input?

Thanks again!

I moved to SD for a job in June. The weather is amazing and the nightlife is pretty good Thursday-Saturday (downtown in the Gaslamp district around Horton Plaza). Try to live close to where you work, morning commutes can be hell sometimes.

I got laid off and moved back to NY a week ago though otherwise I'd have a bit more for you.

Edit: I lived in Point Loma and loved the area, close to the beach and downtown where I worked, avoided I5 by using Pacific Highway. Ocean Beach is a cool place, less trendy than PB but that's what I preferred.

What companies do you have interviews with?

carlsbad is nice. actually really nice regardless what part of the city you end up in. unless you're by the mall, then i cant help you. and you make it seem like carlsbad is a half-day drive away from san diego. from carlsbad i can make downtown san diego in like 20-25 minutes. but carlsbad has a nice stretch of the beach and has the convenience of quick access to the 101 plus a pretty decent nightlife in downtown carlsbad.

Man... you people are such cry babies!! What you encinitas to UCSD with traffic could be what? 25-30 minutes MAX! wow... WAH WAH!!!

Look people I moved to San Diego from LA, the traffic in SD is a GOD SEND!!! I work in Miramar and live downtown. Takes me 20 minutes to get to work, and I don't really consider that a commute in my mind. As for living near where you work... why?! I think you should live where you think you'll enjoy it the most, don't base your life around your work... that's rediculous... thank god I dont' live near where I work cause I would HATE San Diego if I lived in Miramar.

Not during peak commuting times you can't. Try an hour one way at the very least. Multiply that times 5 days a week and you're spending 10 hours minimum in the car every week just driving to and from work. Commuting from north county to downtown would suck on a daily basis. The 15 is even worse than the 5 freeway though. I've lived here for 10 years now and worked in a few different areas so I know what I'm talking about.

If he's working in Carlsbad I'd recommend living up here somewhere, maybe Solona Beach or Encinitas. Those are good beach towns. Excellent surfing too!

Edit-Commuting to north county from somewhere south of here wouldn't be as bad as going the other direction. PB is about the farthest I would want to commute to North County to on a daily basis though and you're still looking at a pretty healthy commute. I know a few people who do it and they aren't crazy about the drive.

Another vote for Mission Valley. It's close to everything - shopping, restaurants, etc. ... plus the apartments and condo's are generally newer than other places.

PB is a fun place if you want to go out and party. More of a younger crowd scene. I'm sure that you'll be happy almost anywhere in San Diego.

i should've clarified but yeah my estimated time isnt happening on a weekday morning, at least during the rush. i was just trying to paint a picture of how long it takes to get to downtown sd in optimal conditions. but yes, jules is correct as i used to commute from vista to fashion valley for 4 straight years and right when i started to finally get accustomed to the drive, i got transferred to san marcos.

and those are nice places to live. and since the op seems to be a social bug, he may enjoy the "scenery" around there also.
