How are you holding up with the food?
Not bad... not eating meat has not been a problem so far. I'm one of three or four vegetarians here. Once the school year starts as well, we'll get more variety. We import a couple staples for the staff as well... cornflakes, honey, peanut butter, and a few others.
After speaking with some of the past staff, it appears as if many of the incoming staff have tendencies to lose weight upon arrival here, sometimes significant amounts.
We worked with a group of kids from the local village yesterday, and I was amazed to learn their ages... physically comparing a 12-year-old here and a 12-year-old back home is like comparing night and day. They are so
small, and not just in terms of weight, but developmentally speaking. While we struggle to keep the weight off our kids, it looks like it's all they can do to keep it on. I would have guessed the majority of them to be around 7 years old.
Amazing kids though, really special, and so unbelievably appreciative. A far cry from many of our students at home in the US.
Not many up yet, but
here's a small handful of pics for those that are interested.
